Christ said that the two greatest commandments are to love God and to love your neighbor as yourself. As Blessed Theophylact explains, "all men are (our) neighbors." We would do well to examine our hearts: Do we hold all people to be worthy of our care, and fully human? Or, do we make exceptions based on outward differences in social standing, skin color, abilities, disabilities, differences of ideology? Regardless of our differences, we are called to love and care for everyone.

For the next week, consider the following practice--when you look into the eyes of your spouse be intentional in recognizing what is good, beautiful and true in them--the presence and image of God. Then, share the good you see in your spouse with gratitude to God.
