Iowa Republicans nominated a man for lieutenant governor who is under criminal investigation.

Derek Wulf lost control of his farm this week. A judge handed it to a receiver. Behind that ruling is a line of people who say he took their property and their money and never made them whole: $182,000 for roughly 2,200 hogs. $119,000 in feed. Defaulted loans on top of it. The Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office is investigating.

The campaign says it's just tight margins. Tight margins are real. Every farmer in this state knows them. They do not explain 2,200 hogs, a sheriff's file, and a court-appointed stranger running your books.

He has not been charged, and that matters. What is already settled is this: Zach Lahn had one hire to make before November, months to vet the guy, and picked him anyway. If that is his judgment with a running mate, imagine it with a budget.

National Voter Registration Day is Tuesday, Sept. 15. Stop by the Norwalk Easter Public Library anytime between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. to register to vote or check your registration status. Staff will be there all day to help with the technology side of it.

Worth doing this year. Under the 2021 election law Iowa Republicans passed, missing a single November general election now flips your registration to "inactive," and inactive registrations get canceled if you sit out two more. Over half a million Iowans were moved to inactive status when that kicked in.

The state is also running annual citizenship checks against a federal database now. When Iowa tried something similar in 2024 using driver's license records, roughly 2,000 voters got flagged, most of them naturalized citizens who were completely eligible. That list ended up in court and the state agreed not to use it again.

You may well be fine. It takes five minutes to know for sure.

“On Friday, President Donald Trump announced the U.S. will allow up to 300,000 metric tons of product for ground beef to be imported over a period of 90 days, with no out-of-quota tariff.”

Every Thursday between 6:30 and 8:00 pm the Bohannan campaign hosts a virtual phone bank. They use a dialer, so you must be on the call during this time period to participate. The dialer will make the calls for you, and it only connects you to the call if someone answers. The people you speak with do not see your phone number. Training will be provided, whether you jump on at 6:30 or at 7:30.

Christina's race is one of the closest congressional races in the country. Every contact with a voter matters. Phone banking is a good alternative for those who do not knock doors. Please sign up for as many Thursdays as you would like!
