This week —September 8–14— Maine proudly recognizes Direct Support Professionals! Governor Janet Mills has officially declared this week as Direct Support Professionals Recognition Week, honoring the dedicated individuals who provide life-enriching support to Mainers!

Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) are essential in helping our friends and neighbors lead full, dignified lives. Their role includes everything from meal preparation, medication assistance, personal care, and life skills training to promoting community inclusion, independence, and choice.

We are pleased to share that The Progress Center and Waypoint Maine have signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) to merge our two organizations. This marks an exciting step toward unifying our missions and expanding the impact of our services across southern and western Maine. While the merger is not yet final, the LOI represents a shared commitment to working together in the months ahead to strengthen the supports we provide to individuals, families, and communities.
