My name is David Cobb and I am running for a seat on the O’Fallon District 90 School Board in the April 1 election.
My wife Lindsay and I were both military dependents. We were raised in O’Fallon and attended District 90 schools. We have two daughters, one currently a 5th grader and the other will start kindergarten next year.
My older daughter has had an IEP since she was in 1st grade. Over the years, I have observed many inconsistencies in her education. Her teachers have been wonderful, but I believe the district can do more to support them. Currently, the district is evaluating the special education program and looking at ways to improve it. A key component of this is bringing consistency for those students that are a part of special education. If elected, I look forward to working with other board members and district staff on providing a much needed update to this program.
I believe that it is imperative for children to receive the best education possible in a safe environment. As a board member, I would like to continue to advocate for those items.
Another important item is communication. I will work to strengthen the communication between the board, teachers, parents and members of the community. The district has a number of ways that they disseminate information and if elected, I will work to ensure that the path to access this information is easily accessible and clearly understood.
Ultimately, if elected, I fully understand I will be one person on a seven member board. If the O’Fallon community elects me to this position, I guarantee that I will be an engaged board member who receives input, asks questions, and participates in meaningful discussions with the other board members.
Finally, If elected, I would be available to members of the community, for any concerns and questions. The O’Fallon community decides who serves on the District 90 board and we have a responsibility to serve on your behalf.
Thank you for your attention and I would appreciate your vote on April 1.
