PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE FILL IN YOUR HOLES! This hole was left overnight and could have been disastrous for a person, pet or Sea Turtle walking on the beach. The Town of Caswell Beach has publicized on their large media sign, there are signs at every access, rental companies have it in their literature and we post about it frequently. If you are going to dig, then be responsible and fill it in!

**This conservation work for protected sea turtles on Caswell Beach is authorized by the NC Wildlife Resources Commission (ES Permit 26ST03).

Mama sea turtle returning to the ocean after laying her eggs near the dune line. Thank you, Suzan, for seeing her off safely! And, thank you, Brenda Torrey Photography, for sharing your beautiful post!

I was just under 1/4 mile away when I spotted the action. A few people on the beach, all facing the water, along with turtle patrol. Then I saw the big blob at the water's edge. That's when I started sprinting...it probably looked more like a jog but I was definitely going as fast as my legs would take me! While running I whipped off my backpack, pulled my camera out and said a little prayer of gratitude/thanks that there was a long lens already attached. I made excellent progress but knew I wasn't going to get any closer before she disappeared under the water so I quickly snapped this image. I love it! It looks super peaceful and I could feel that Suzan from Oak Island Sea Turtle Protection Program was sending that mama off with so much love.
A sheller is who originally spotted the mama and called the patrol. Way to go! Here are the numbers to call if you ever spot a hatchling or a nesting mama. Put them in your phone right now for some excellent turtle karma!
