DOT agrees to lower East Oak Island Drive speed limit.
On Aug. 18, council passed an amendment to the town’s speed limit ordinances that drops the limit from 45 to 35 mph between 19th Street and Country Club Road. The change extends the 35 mph zone along East Oak Island Drive from 37th Street to 19th Street.
The speed limit from 19th Street to Middleton Avenue will remain 45 mph. The new ordinance also limits the use of low speed vehicles (golf carts) to east of 37th Street. Under state law, golf carts are permitted on roads with a posted speed limit of 35 mph or lower unless prohibited by the town.
