Catherine Ann Schneider believes in a strong court system and everyone's right to have meaningful access to justice. For the past 8 years she has been a public interest lawyer, providing free legal representation and counsel to thousands of lower-income Cook County residents each year, who are forced to go to court without a lawyer because they can't afford one. Through this work, she has gained e

xtensive knowledge of the issues and barriers faced by self represented users of the courts and a deep understanding of many areas of law and civil procedure. She has also learned how to distill legal information and advice into its simplest form and to communicate it in a way that everyone can understand. The number of people coming to court without a lawyer is growing rapidly, so judges must know how to work with large volumes of self represented litigants, who come from all walks of life and various backgrounds. Cathy's experience not only makes her uniquely qualified for the bench, but inspires her to put her expertise to work making the courts more accessible and fair for all participants.
