Aanapisi Program at Laney College Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institution

The Asian American Native American Pacific Islander initiative (AANAPISI) is a new learning community at Laney College to help Asian and Pacific Islander students achieve their educational goals. Students who participate in a learning community become part of a group or cohort who take classes together.

Mission: The Laney College Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institutions (AANAPISI) Initiative has been designed to enhance the capacity of the college to serve its large and diverse AANAPI student population, increasing student engagement and improving educational outcomes for this student cohort. Overall, Laney College aims to challenge the model minority myth and contribute to the emerging field of community college research through its new AANAPISI Initiative. OUR GOALS The project seeks to address the following three areas of student needs: * The need to improve academic performance indicators for all AANAPISI students, particularly those sub-groups of AANAPISI students that are struggling academically; * The need to develop a system and framework for collecting and analyzing student data to better understand the educational needs of AANAPISI students; * The need to respond to gaps in services in instructional and student services in order to bolster persistence, graduation, and transfer rates for AANAPISI students.
