City of Oakland Soft-Story Retrofit Program

Oakland's efforts to reduce loss of life and property following an earthquake. Earthquakes are a fact of life in California.

Because the Hayward Fault runs from one end of Oakland to another, a 6.7 or higher earthquake on that fault could create major short and long term devastation to our homes and lives. Oakland offers two earthquake retrofit programs to help reduce loss of life and property so that residents and the city can recover more quickly following a major earthquake.
