On behalf of Love Not Blood Campaign www.lovenotbloodcampaign.org, we thank all who came out to July 8, 2010, Verdict Day.
8 years ago my wife and I had the first Verdict Day July 8, 2011, and the desire was 1. Make sure that this historic day was never forgotten or sweep under a rug and 1. that we bring together Mother’s whose loved ones were murdered by Police so that they could hug, love and strengthen each other and move forward in the fight for Justice.
From that time to now we have traveled all across the country uniting families for one common cause which is holding police accountable when they Murder.
Yesterday was very Powerful
Today is very powerful July 8, 2019 marks 9 years since the first and sadly only officer in California history to be charged arrest and convicted for an on-duty shooting.
Today July 8, 2019, is a very powerful day because today the Senate will vote on AB392 Save Our Lives / Police Accountability, unfortunately, it came on the life of Stephan Clark.
We made some progress but it’s taking to long we want officers charged, arrested, convicted and sent to prison when they murder.

Where else would we be on July 8, 2010 Verdict Day but at California State Capitol on The Senate floor for a historical vote on policing AB392 The Act To Save Lives introduced and carried by San Diego Assemblywoman Dr Shirley Webber and trust she put everything on the line to go up against one of California biggest gangs the police 👮‍♀️ I look forward to her sharing this very difficult journey we experienced some of the Backlash , bulling and even tears shed while continuing to fight as she kept it real , real as she sat in meetings through this process I personally love ❤️ this California Soul Sister #1 . Also in this picture is Senator Skinner whom California Families United 4 Justice worked with to get her bill SB1421 which came into Law January 1, 2018 which allows family to access police 👮‍♀️ officers history of conduct which could never happen for families thank you Senator Skinner and last but not least Senator Bradford out of Los Angeles who is a sponsor of AB392 and will boldly give The Senate floor , Public Safety Committee and any other floor in The State Capitol the uncut , raw , no chaser truth about Racism and white supremacy that is still in The State Capitol and in The State Of California. It was a great honor working with them all but we all know there is so much work to be done to hold Police 👮‍♀️ accountable when they murder .

We also want to thank our families in California Families United 4 Justice and thank every family member who Uncle Bobby fought to be sure you were able to speak took the challenged and on your appointed days got up there and slayed falsehood and gave them all truth about this reality of having your love one murdered but not getting Justice .

Last but certainly not least we thank all the amazing Co-Sponsors Of AB392 some who started out 2 years ago when it was AB391 (I think lol 😂)anyways we had to make a decision to let die on the floor because two years ago it was not going to make it to The Governors desk. AB 392 Dr Webber picked back up for the fight and we all fought with with her .
You all are amazing organizations doing some great work and together we all did this .
So I just wanted everyone to know this was just not just California Families United 4 Justice it was a collective of amazing Organizations with two Orgs lead by impacted members which was STOP and of course California Families United 4 Justice
And as we all know
The Struggle Continues !!!

Uncle Bobby (Cephus X Johnson) has become the people’s uncle— through the , he and his wife, Aunt Bee (Beechie X Keeton), have played a huge role in supporting families who have had family members killed by the police.

This short film documents the love that drives their work, work that began together with the murder of their nephew, Oscar Grant. For the last 12 years, they have created community, amplified stories, and fostered spaces for truth-telling and healing.

The Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation is honored to be able to support the Love Not Blood Campaign in sustaining their support services to families. We want change—and we also want healing for our families. Through the Love Not Blood Campaign’s Healing Through Resistance program and annual Families United 4 Justice Network, they have the understanding and skill to help families find healing.

Yesterday we kicked off our 7th Annual Reclaim King’s Radical Legacy Weekend with our partners by unveiling our coalition effort to win reparations for Oakland’s Black students, to guarantee housing as a human right, and to reimagine public safety by refunding the community with half of OPD's bloated budget.

Today we're excited to continue reclaiming King's radical legacy together with events hosted by Causa Justa Just Cause, Community READY Corps / CRC Allies and Accomplices - CRCAA, Oscar Grant Foundation / Love Not Blood Campaign, and Youth Vs. Apocalypse!

INSPIRED BY GORDON PARKS,
MY CAMERA IS MY WEAPON OF CHOICE
TO CAPTURE MOMENTS WHERE
HUMANITY HAPPENS.

Amir is a documentary photographer with a social justice lens focused primarily on challenging the narrative of Black and Brown people portrayed by the mainstream media. He mainly shoots documentary style in black and white. He likes the timelessness of black and white photos and the juxtaposition of the current fight for justice with those being fought during the Civil Rights Era.
He came to this work in response to the current era of police violence, including the loss of a friend killed by police. He is inspired by Gordon Parks, Carrie Mae Weems, Eli Reed, Ruddy Roye and others who bring awareness to the diverse lived experiences of communities of color. His photos serve to reframe the message and to bring attention to the injustices impacting people of color.
Amir attended Howard University where he received his degree in Political Science and African American History.
