Just over a year ago, the City of Oakland Department of Transportation (OakDOT) kicked off three years of ramped-up street paving with a major street repair campaign focusing on local neighborhood streets and historically underserved neighborhoods. Thanks to the dedication of essential workers who have delivered paving work and other vital services throughout the pandemic, the plan is off to a roaring start: the City announced today it has paved 39.4 miles since July 1, 2019.

To thrive in the classroom our teachers need housing security outside of it. We’ve launched a new pilot to provide Oakland teachers with a guaranteed income and reduced-priced housing. We want to keep our teachers, like Malik Stead, rooted in Oakland.

Right now our pilot is funded entirely by philanthropy but we believe its success will change the way our public systems work and create a new path where teacher housing becomes a priority. TY Community Development Finance, Pritzker Foundation, Hellman Foundation, the CA Endowment + community champions for making this ambitious plan a reality.

As COVID cases surge and our most vulnerable are put at higher risk, we all need to recommit to our shared public health and safety.

Starting Wed. at 12:01 a.m. Alameda County will move into the purple tier and follow the state's guidelines found here: https://bit.ly/2IIjolx

In Oakland, COVID disproportionately impacts our Black, Latinx, Indigenous and Asian communities -- we can all take care of each other by wearing masks, physically distancing, and limiting indoor gatherings.

Now is always a great time to get tested: https://covid-19.acgov.org/testing.page

Excited to learn about new #Oakland business Mighty Buildings, Inc., who uses 3D-printers to build sustainable in-law units (ADUs). Tech + innovation can help us in the broader housing crisis by potentially building faster, smarter + cleaner.

To help expand housing options for Oakland residents, the City of Oakland streamlined the permitting process to build new ADUs.

Today, America said yes: Yes to decency and compassion. Yes to new leadership that elevates our values of diversity and inclusion. Yes to a Black Asian woman from Oakland, California. Congratulations President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris.

Let’s hold another truth: Today’s victory was not an overwhelming repudiation of Trump's hateful rhetoric + unethical acts. The margin of victory reminds us of how much work America has to do to acknowledge and confront the great injustices caused by a history of inequity in our country.

An Oval Office with Joe Biden and Kamala Harris gives us hope that our country will start the real work to reconcile the wounds of our past, and start the healing our country needs in the present.

I cannot wait to start working with a Biden-Harris administration and I am filled with pride to see Daughter of Oakland, Kamala Harris, at the helm of our nation’s future.

Perhaps they too are tired of "white paternalism" and being treated like they're helpless 10-year-olds by earth mothers like you?
Pretty heading. Why not show what i see from alameda? You know. all the broken down RV's and garbage everywhere. Oh you like up in the oakland hills...... right.
Mayor, Schaaf, We are calling on you to deny entrance, to the extent possible, of the National Guard to Oakland, should Trump or other federal authority order them to Oakland. Will you pledge?
Mayor, I live in your neighborhood, you represented me on City Council, and I have always supported you. But I'm genuinely shocked to be getting slick, vapid mailers featuring you supporting Derrick Johnson against Rebecca Kaplan. His only qualification appears to be that he is supported by Lyft to the tune of $100,000. I'm really horrified to see you on board with this gross corporate power grab. Please stop mailing me and other voters about him. It's not helping him, and it's really undermining your credibility.
In what Universe does opening schools in January make sense? I have a child in Oakland Public and if you open the schools I will take him out and homeschool; as will many other oakland parents I know. Having children in school together during this pandemic is the Stupidest thing I have ever heard. You can try and keep them distanced as much as you want, but it only takes one slip up of an A Symtomatic child to infect a Whole School, in turn infecting the families of the people in the school, some who have autoimmune deficiencies. Also, Asking Teachers to put not only their lives on the line, but the lives of their families is irresponsible and self serving. You ought to be ashamed of yourself. Youa re an embarrassment to those of us who are Oakland Natives. Get a grip and think about more than just your career. There are also a lot of Teachers I know who would take this time to either retire or find another district to go to. Libby Schaff You Are Wrong and endangering lives. For Shame.
Hi Libby Schaaf. My name is Tyler Musgrave. On July 29, 2020, at 2:11am. I was issued a ticket in violation 1736077372 near my old home in East Oakland Unfortunately, we are the middle of a pandemic and I cannot afford to pay a $316 ticket. If I don't send $316 by October 16, 2020, then, Ill owe $619, then $1000 according to the citation. Let me tell you why I had to park on the curve at 2:11am. I was an essential worker who did the overnight shift with Abode Services homeless program. A month before the ticket, my car hit was by some young people doing donut holes. I tried to make a report... the police never showed up, unfortunately, I don't like using the police for this reason and for obvious reasons. We have witnessed many of our neighbor's cars getting hit with bullets and scratches because of recklessness with no help from the community systems that are supposed to support us. To this day, I came home late and saw these youth doing their donut and parked my car on the curb! Never did I expect to receive a ticket at 2am by Oakland for $300, especially, as limited people are in the streets so, it wasn't a disturbance. Again, I'm confused to why Oakland issuing tickets like this and putting people on payment plans DURING A PANDEMIC. I am asking for help.
No town hall on homelessness?
This has been outside our carwash on 63rd and international for quite awhile. Please send someone over to remove 2 cars and trash. Thanks
Good morning! I am a native of Oakland and still have property in Oakland. Twice in the last month have visited family members in Oakland and I am dismayed at the condition of the city! What is going on. Last September we brought a visiting family to tour the city and show them the beautiful lake in middle of the city. How embarrassing it was while traveling the city streets. Yesterday while attending the viewing of my first cousin at Fuller Mortuary the conditions of the surrounding streets was the worse I have seen. Surely this is against any and all health codes. Where are my tax dollars going? How can you allow the city that you govern look like this. Take a ride around the area of International and 45th Avenue. I have attached a picture of what I saw. Horrific! This so disgusting! You appear to very proud of the job you are doing for the city but how can this be? How! Please do something about this, please. I love Oakland but this tears me up to see such a great city looking this way!
83rd and International: On arrived to the property to be paralyzed by a Garbage, Cars Blocking Driveway and Appliances just like a landfill space. The Mayors Office assured the owner in a Email last Monday Sept. 13, 2020 that they would clean up the rest of garbage only after the City came out the previous week and only dealing with 2 cars and leaving One Car with all of the Garbage. The Car in the driveway is also blocking the sidewalk to the property. I found a little Old lady trying to collect trash and haul it away herself! The Odor from garbage I could not even stand I also saw needles and feces. The owner and other people in the area have reported the matter time and time again This matter has been going on for the last 4 MONTHS. A letter with a fine put on the property tax bill for owner to pay for something that she has no control of WOW. She and other have Called/Emailed Larry Reid the District 7 Councilman with no response on various occasions this is his 4 term "SHOULD THERE BE A 5TH". 4 months with People trying to get something done well my thought is Kids, Seniors and Everyday People have to walk in the street to get the car subjecting to being Hit and the needles and syringes a Accident waiting to happen. Oakland accepts open dumps in their neighborhoods as a fixture of the landscape, to be seen but somehow ignored.
