Oakland Chinatown Chamber of Commerce

Oakland Chinatown Chamber of Commerce Official page for the Oakland Chinatown Chamber of Commerce. The Oakland Chinatown Chamber of Commerce was formed in 1985 by a group of local business people who wanted to promote business in the Asian community and provide a forum for the discussion of government policies.

Today, the chamber has grown to over 400 members representing very diverse ethnic groups and a range of businesses and professions in both Oakland Chinatown and outside of the Oakland Chinatown area. The Chamber... * Hosts numerous events that give our members opportunities to network with others and promote their business * Promotes events that drive more traffic into Oakland Chinatown and help generate more opportunities for our local merchants and business professionals * Hosts meetings and luncheons with international trade delegations to promote international trade between our members and businesses abroad * Conducts small business training seminars and community meetings so that our members are made aware of changes in business practices, laws, and policies * Communicates community issues and changes to our members through our monthly Dragon Tales Newsletter * Takes an active role in identifying community issues and advocates for policy changes and the needs of our members * Collaborates with other community groups and government entities for the benefit of the Oakland Asian community and business owners Through our activities, we make Oakland Chinatown a better place for our members to conduct business.

Mission: "To promote and advocate for business and trade in the Oakland Asian Community"

Previously in September 2020, after hearing about the fire that devastated 8th Street and Webster Street, local community members all reached out to donate to the GoFundMe page created for the fire victims. Aside from local community members, we also received checks from many local businesses, family associations, and individuals, such as Kim Hong Noodle, New Tin’s Market, Oakland Consolidated Chinese Association, Loong Kong Tien Yee Association of Oakland, Ming’s Tasty Restaurant, East Bay Vision Center Optometry, and more. Thank you for all the contribution and support! This truly shows how strong and compassionate we are as a community. After collecting all of the funds, we are now opening up the grant to all fire victims. We have successfully contacted and sent out the grant to a majority of the fire victims. The deadline is January 31st and grant requests will be reviewed and determined by a committee made up of the Oakland Chinatown Chamber Foundation Directors and community volunteers. Grant recipients and the grant amount will be notified by March 15, 2021, so please stay tuned to see how your donation and support have impacted these businesses.

If you have yet to receive information about our grant information and you are a fire victim located at 8th and Webster, please feel free to email us at [email protected] for the grant application.

If you are interested in donating to the fund, you can still do so. Here is the link to the GoFundMe page.

This Monday we will be introducing one of the first milk tea shops in Oakland Chinatown, Sweetheart Cafe. According to its website, Sweetheart Cafe was founded in 1996 and was the first milk tea shop in the East Bay. Please see the attached menu for more information. (P.S. they even have a secret menu)
I highly recommend their spicy popcorn chicken (they also have an original flavor).

If you play Pokemon Go, you can show them your level to receive up to 20% off.

You can either call in to pick up or schedule a pick up through the Ritual app. They also offer delivery through Postmates.

Over the last few weeks, the Oakland Police Department has reported an increase in violent crimes targeting Asians and Latinos. In most cases, a group of juveniles has targeted individuals walking on city streets. The suspects have been known to physically attack the victims knocking them to the ground and forcibly taking the victim’s personal property.

Tips on reducing your risks:
• Beware of your surroundings.
• Don’t be distracted by your electronic devices.
• Be especially alert when entering and exiting your vehicle.
• Remember to lock your car door after entering your vehicle.
• Don’t carry all your credit cards and cash in your purse or wallet.

This an active investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Robbery Section at (510) 238-3326.

Tell Us What You Think About the ACT RealTime Rider Capacity Feature | AC Transit

AC Transit is beta testing a real-time rider capacity feature on Tempo Line 1T that lets riders know when buses are empty or full. This helps riders determine whether enough seats are available to allow for physical distancing before they board. The initial data is encouraging and, if successful, the technology could be activated across our entire bus fleet.

The real-time rider capacity feature is just one of the many ways in which AC Transit is working to safeguard our communities against the transmission of COVID-19. But to implement it across their entire fleet, they really need to hear from users about their experience with the feature – in particular, Tempo Line 1T riders who do not speak English as their primary language.

Please help them improve this technology by filling out the survey below.

SURVEY LINK (multilingual) – http://www.actransit.org/survey/. This survey will be available until 5 p.m. December 31, 2020. After completing the survey, participants can leave their name and email address to be entered into a drawing for a free 31-day bus pass.

Try out the new beta version of our real-time rider capacity feature for Tempo Line 1T. Plan your trip based on real-time capacity and departure info before you get to the station.

Statement on State’s Regional Stay-At-Home Order

ALAMEDA COUNTY, CA – The State announced today that they will use regional availability of intensive care unit (ICU) beds to implement a Regional Stay-At-Home Order. The State’s Order would go into effect when a region’s ICU availability falls below 15 percent and would remain in effect for a minimum of three weeks. Additionally, all private gatherings of any size would be prohibited, and non-essential travel restricted.

After the minimum three weeks, the order could be lifted if a region’s projected ICU capacity meets or exceeds 15 percent. If the region’s ICU capacity has not met this threshold after the third week, projected capacity will be reassessed weekly. The Order will reduce the movement of residents and limit households mixing to flatten the curve once more before a COVID-19 vaccine becomes widely available.

The Bay Area region encompasses 11 counties (Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Monterey, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Solano, and Sonoma). At this time no region has been placed into the State’s Regional Stay-At-Home-Order, but the State’s current projections show that the Bay Area region will reach the 15% threshold by mid- to late December. Alameda County’s ICU capacity data is available here: https://covid-19.acgov.org/data

At this time, Alameda County remains in the Purple Tier. We will keep you updated and encourage all businesses and residents to plan now for further restrictions.

Temporary closures

Outdoor dining (take-out, pick-up, and delivery would still be permitted)
Indoor and outdoor playgrounds
Indoor recreational facilities
Hair salons and barbershops
Personal care services
Museums, zoos, and aquariums
Movie theaters
Wineries
Bars, breweries, and distilleries
Family entertainment centers
Cardrooms and satellite wagering
Limited services not included in critical infrastructure
Amusement parks
The following sectors would need to implement additional modifications and ensure 100 percent masking and physical distancing:

Temporary restrictions

Outdoor recreational facilities: permitted only without any food, drink, or alcohol sales. Overnight stays at campgrounds prohibited.
Retail and shopping centers: indoor operations permitted at 20% capacity with entrance metering and no eating or drinking in the stores. Special hours should be instituted for seniors and others with chronic conditions or compromised immune systems.
Hotels and lodging: open for critical infrastructure support only.
Offices: remote only, except for critical infrastructure sectors where remote working is not possible
Places of worship and political expression: Outdoor services permitted
Entertainment production including professional sports: operation permitted without live audiences.
The following sectors would remain open when a remote option is not possible with appropriate COVID-19 preventative measures including ensuring 100 percent masking and physical distancing:

Permitted to continue operating under Regional Stay-At-Home-Order

Critical infrastructure, as defined by the State
Schools that are already open for in-person learning
Non-urgent medical and dental care
Childcare and pre-K
Alameda County will not be accepting elementary (TK-6) school waivers at this time. The State recommends against school waivers in counties with case rates greater than 200 per 100,000 over 2 weeks - or approximately 14 per 100,000 per day. Alameda County is currently above 16.

As Governor Gavin Newsom noted in today’s remarks, new restrictions would be temporary. Vaccine availability is not far away. We can get through this together and by everyone doing our part. We remind Alameda County residents that it is more urgent than ever before to stay home as much as possible, where a mask whenever you leave home, keep at least 6 feet of distance from anyone you don’t live with, wash your hands frequently, and avoid gathering with other households and traveling.

I am happy to announce that I have decided to run for the Peralta Community College District Board of Trustees, representing Alameda! I have always been passionate about education (my mom was on the school board when I was kid!) and our community colleges, especially College of Alameda, are real gems. I served at Peralta for more than 18 years and I want to make sure that our colleges are supported properly. Unfortunately, Peralta's board and administration have really dropped the ball on providing the leadership our students need to succeed. Help me reform the Peralta Colleges. I want to hear your ideas on what we need to do to support our students. Let's set up a community Zoom Town Hall to discuss College of Alameda, our students and what to do to improve Peralta. Check out my website at http://www.heyman4students.com and feel free to email me anytime at [email protected]. Thanks for your support and I look forward to your ideas on how we can make our community colleges serve the community better.
