I’m incredibly moved, humbled and grateful to Asian Americans Advancing Justice - AAJC for selecting me as this year’s Yuri Kochiyama Impact Honoree!
I’m incredibly moved, humbled and grateful to Asian Americans Advancing Justice - AAJC for selecting me as this year’s Yuri Kochiyama Impact Honoree! This award honors the activism and leadership of a Californian who dedicated her life to fighting injustices including the Japanese Internment during WWII. She also became active in the Civil Rights Movement participating in sit-ins and speaking out against discrimination. Yuri Kochiyama’s 60 years of social justice advocacy and activism inspired countless others to join the fight for a better, fairer world. Throughout my time in the State Assembly, I've been privileged to partner with AAAJ/ALC on so many progressive and equitable policies, such as the #CAVotingforAllAct that created the strongest voting language access standards in the nation, the #TRUTHAct that provided critical protections to our immigrant communities threatened by ICE, and now the #VISIONAct to end direct transfers from prisons and jails to ICE. I look forward to our ongoing work together for greater justice! #OurCAValues
