Alameda County District Attorney's Office The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office is comprised of 156 attorneys and 66 inspectors, as well as specialists in victim and witness assistance and a variety of support professionals.

Divisions of the Office include Criminal, Juvenile, Consumer & Welfare Fraud, and Victim/Witness Assistance. We also have units specializing in the areas of gangs, sexual assault, human trafficking, truancy, identity theft, DNA, and child abduction. Our jurisdiction covers 813 square miles and our attorneys and staff work in 10 offices located throughout the County.

General information

In the past year, the attorneys in our office handled over 35,000 felony and misdemeanor cases. Our felony prosecutors secured convictions in 94% of the cases taken to trial, and in 98% of the murder, attempted murder, r**e and robbery cases tried before a jury. The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office is a statewide leader in victims’ rights and assistance. In the 2010 fiscal year, our Restitution Unit obtained over 1,160 restitution orders on behalf of crime victims in Alameda County totaling more than $16 million, making our program the most successful in the State.

In addition to prosecuting criminal matters, the District Attorney’s Office has the responsibility of, but not limited to:

Prosecuting actions in the Juvenile Justice system involving conduct that, if committed by an adult, would be a criminal matter

Bringing civil & criminal actions involving consumer fraud, including real estate fraud, mortgage fraud, insurance fraud, medical fraud and financial fraud, and crimes committed against our elders and dependent adult populations

Bringing legal actions to ensure environmental protection
Ensuring victims of crime are aware of their rights, and those rights are upheld and enforced

Arranging for crime victim support services including psychosocial services and the processing of claims to the Victims Compensation and
Government Claims Board on their behalf

Advocating for the court to order legally appropriate restitution on behalf of crime victims and the State of California-Victims of Crime Fund
