Lavender Seniors of the East Bay' mission is to improve the lives of LGBT elders living in the East San Francisco Bay Area with support services, outreach, education, and advocacy.
Started in 1994 by a group of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) elders concerned with a lack of LGBT elder specific services or legal protections in Alameda County or in California, Lavender Seniors of the East Bay is a grassroots volunteer driven organization working to better enable LGBT older adults to age in their community. The organization is a project of the Tides Center. The Tides Center is a national non-profit organization focused on social justice issues. Tides provides back end business affairs, financial systems, and human resources as well as the 501(c)3 umbrella that Lavender Seniors operates under. Tides allows the small staff and volunteers at Lavender Seniors to work directly on programs and services while at the same time reducing indirect overhead and administration associated with legal, HR, financial, and compliance personnel.
