This is great for medians, parks, freeway entrances. The rec center will be requesting a couple hundred bulbs, if there are any neighbors interested in coordinating a planting party please get in touch. It is truly a beautiful sight to see these daffodils pop up all over Oakland in the spring.

City of Oakland Prepared for Labor Strike Tomorrow
Sworn Police, Fire and Emergency Services staff not affected
Oakland, CA — The City of Oakland was informed today by Service Employees International Union (Local 1021 SEIU) that it intends to strike tomorrow, November 2 at 2:30 pm. Late this afternoon, the International Federation of Professional & Technical Engineers (Local 21 IFPTE) announced its request to its members to attend the picket line tomorrow from 4:30pm – 6:30pm. Police, fire, 911 dispatch and emergency services personnel will not participate in the strike. Police and fire emergency response, including traffic enforcement, will be operational.

Due to staffing shortages, the following will be CLOSED tomorrow, Thursday, November 2, starting at 2 pm:

· All Head Start and Early Head Start centers
· All Parks & Recreation facilities and programs, including after school programs
· All Senior Centers
· All public libraries

The Administration is working to minimize further service impacts that could result from limited and unpredictable staffing levels at other City facilities, programs, and services tomorrow afternoon.

Online services will remain available on the City’s web site:www.oaklandnet.com.
The City is prepared to address any public works emergencies if they arise.

STILL OPEN, APPLY NOW!

Oakland Unite (OU), a program of the Human Services Department (HSD) at the City of Oakland, is on the search for its next cohort of Youth Squad Leaders and we need your help getting the word out to the talented young people in your network! Youth Squad Leaders take part in OU’s effort to change community norms around violence by taking back community spaces.
We expect to hire ten-twelve young leaders (16-24) per site to help run Friday Summer Nights/Peace in the Park programming in two sites: 1) Hoover Elementary in West Oakland and 2) Arroyo Park area in East Oakland. Ideally, we would like to select young people who are from the respective areas or folks who are familiar with each location’s immediate surroundings.
The job runs from June 19th-August 18th 2017, three days per week, for 15+ hours and participants are paid $12.86/hour.
For more information on the full scope of the program and to access the Youth Squad Leadership Application, go to Oakland Unite's flyer here. (http://tinyurl.com/llkxwp8).
