Sequoia Hospital workers fighting for a fair contact
"Our members' first priority is taking care of patients. That's our passion and that's what we love to do."
Our sisters and brothers from AFSCME Local 829 held an action today to call on Sequoia Hospital executives to stop putting profits over the people who provide patient care to the community.
The workers have been in contract negotiations with Sequoia Hospital, a Dignity Health medical facility, for several months.
But management refuses to agree on proposals that would show the hospital cares about its employees, who are simply asking for a fair return on their work.
Join us in supporting the Sequoia Hospital workers as they fight for a fair contract!
Remember together we our strong ✊🏽💪🏽!
The #heartunions week of action celebrates the great work done by union reps and members in our workplaces and in society.

To all my voters Prop 13 is not about property taxes but providing funding to public schools and community colleges for infrastructure.
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Voters are confused by the designation of a proposition for a state school bond issue being called Prop 13. This Prop 13 has nothing to do to at all with the reform of the original property tax , Prop 13, passed by voters in 1978 to cap property tax increases. The Prop 13 on the...

Another union hotel in San Mateo County. Remember together we are strong ✊🏽💪🏽!
It's official! Today, front desk and reservations staff at the new Grand Hyatt at SFO formed a union with Teamsters 856! They join the over 1000 hotel workers already represented by our Local.
Special thanks to California Assembly Speaker pro Tem Kevin Mullin for verifying the card count today at the hotel.
"We welcome the Grand Hyatt at SFO staff to our union and look forward to getting to the bargaining table to negotiate their first Teamster contract," said Teamsters 856 President Mike Lagomarsino.

“We love working at MPM and serving the community, but at the same time, you can't eat prestige. The Local 526 membership has spoken with one voice: our households simply cannot afford these drastic cuts.” – AFSCME Local 526 (AFSCME Wisconsin Council 32) President Jaclyn Kelly, explaining why workers at the Milwaukee Public Museum refuse to accept sub-par contract terms offered by management.
Good news for unions. Together we are strong 💪🏽 ✊🏽!
Membership grows to 2.5 million. Lost 146,000 members in 2017-18.
New federal figures show just how much more union members earn compared to workers who don’t join together in unions.
So, if you want to earn a bigger paycheck, join or form a union. That’s a union difference you can feel in your wallet.
A tentative agreement has been reach for AFSCME 3299 who have been fighting for a contract for almost three years. Remember together we are strong ✊🏽💪🏽!
It’s been almost 3 years of fighting for a strong contract, and last night it happened. Service workers (SX) reached a historic tentative agreement that sets the highest union standard at UC. Proving once again, that when 3299 fights, we win!
Stay tuned for more voting details and for the latest on our patient care unit contract as well.
Don't forget your rights in the workplace! Never go at it alone.
Under the Supreme Court’s Weingarten decision, when an investigatory interview occurs, the following rules apply:
The employee must make a clear request for union representation before or during the interview. The employee cannot be punished for making this request.
After the employee makes the request, the employer must choose from among three options. The employer must:
Grant the request and delay questioning until the union representative arrives and has a chance to consult privately with the employee; or
Deny the request and end the interview immediately; or
Give the employee a choice of:
(1) having the interview without representation or
(2) ending the interview.
If the supervisor denies the request for union representation and continues to ask questions, he or she commits an unfair labor practice and the employee has the right to refuse to answer. The supervisor cannot discipline the employee for such a refusal.

I AM UNION
WE ARE AFSCME
On what would have been his 91st birthday, we celebrate the towering legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.—his moral force as a faith leader, his devotion to nonviolent resistance and, of course, the sacrifices he made to end legalized segregation in the South.
Happy Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day!
A sad reality!

Reach out to your congressperson and make sure they are voting YES. We need to turn the tide of the anti-labor movement.
WASHINGTON—The Democratic-run U.S. House will vote on the Protect the Right to Organize (Pro) Act, the most-comprehensive pro-worker labor law reform bill in decades, by mid-February, top leaders have announced. Communications directors for both House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.
To all members we are counting on you.

The tax cuts are not trickling down!
A new study analysis shows just how well the Trump tax cuts have worked – for giant corporations and wealthy individuals – while doing little or nothing for working Americans. Even as corporations were flush with cash thanks to the tax cuts, they were laying off employees and spending their extra money on stock buybacks, benefitting wealthy investors.
Let’s put blame where it belongs, which is greed! Union ✊🏽!
Let’s be thankful!
Let’s be real!
Yes they do!
United we Stand, Divided we Fall!
Don’t fight against other workers. Fight to raise the bar for ALL workers!
Together we are strong 💪🏽 ✊🏽!
