Bus Etiquette
#TuesdayTip: Please be courteous when boarding with baggage. Take your backpack off your back and don't use your bag to hog a seat. More riders are on board now and good bus etiquette goes a long way 👍.
Happy Birthday to us! Get a 👑 on the bus!
AC Transit launched in 1960 but has roots that stretch back to 1903. When we took control of the privately-held Key System, AC Transit ended the private ownership of transit in the East Bay and became the first public agency to serve the district.
Grab one of our special edition birthday crowns on a bus while supplies last!
We have had so many highlights through the years. Here are a few:
2002
We have embraced environmental technologies for more than 20 years and, in 2002, we opened our first hydrogen fueling facility at our Richmond Division. In 2006, we launched our first-generation fuel cell electric bus pilot program: https://www.actransit.org/zeb
1994
If Twitter had existed, we’re sure we would have been trending. Back in 1994, we made an appearance in MC Hammer’s “Pumps and a Bump”, along with Deion Sanders: https://youtu.be/dc3gLvnOuAc?t=221
1989
When the Loma Prieta Earthquake struck, Operator Douglas Burghardt is amazingly able to come to a safe stop just feet from the collapsed section of the Bay Bridge, saving himself and 35 passengers onboard. After taking his passengers to a safer section of the span, heroic Mr. Burghardt returns to help pull motorists from their cars that where dangling over the San Francisco Bay:https://www.actransit.org/sites/default/files/2020-08/31-fall.pdf

History of our Fuel Cell Buses
Today is National Hydrogen Fuel Cell Day. We've lead the way in hydrogen fuel cell buses since the 2000s.
We started a first-gen #fuelcell electric 🚍 pilot in 2005. Currently, we have 36 fuel cell buses along with our fleet of other zero emission buses.

Are you spending hours of your day behind the wheel stuck in traffic? You can turn that into productive time by taking public transit. Catch up on work, read a book, watch videos on your device, all while reducing pollution and shrinking your carbon footprint. California Clean Air Day is October 5. You can celebrate along with us by jumping on an AC Transit bus.
Also, find simple ways to help keep our air clean by taking the #CleanAirDayCA pledge: https://tinyurl.com/ACTransitCleanAirDay.
When you take the pledge, you’ll be entered into a drawing to win a cool AC Transit swag bag. Make sure to check the “Share with my organization” box so we can contact you if you win.
Swiping Day Pass
#TuesdayTip: swipe the paper pass, don't dip. We have heard some passes get stuck in the farebox, so don't chance it. It's also quicker and easier to swipe!
Football Detours
Going to Cal Bears today? 🏈
There will be some detours around Berkeley. Lines 36, 51B, 52, 79, and F will all be impacted for each home game this season. https://bit.ly/3xMkV0l

We're honored to have Congresswoman Barbara Lee visit us & learn about the new zero emission buses and about how they’re benefiting the community.
They bring healthier and cleaner transit. Just one of these buses eliminates nearly 2,000 tons of CO2—equivalent to removing 30 cars.
We’re already reducing greenhouse gases, logging more than 5 million zero emission miles, and eliminating nearly 13,000 metric tons of CO2.
Our Zero Emission Transit Bus Technology Analysis Study allows us to test engine technologies to inform future decisions.
Funding for our Zero Emission program has come from various sources, including the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), Department of Energy, Air Resources Board CA, California State Transportation Agency, Bay Area Air District, and Metropolitan Transportation Commission. The federal funds help us towards the zero-emission goal.

Meet the Future of AC Transit Zero Emissions.mp4
Meet the future of AC Transit! This Earth Day we mark the next phase in our transition to a 100% zero emission fleet with the delivery and launch of more than 40 new zero emission buses. Follow us on the road to 2040: http://ow.ly/jA6l50IQn53
#RoadMapTo2040 #ZeroEmission
Our buses have the highest filtration allowed by the manufacturer, HEPA filters rated MERV-7. They remove particulate matter as small as 3.0 micrometers. Fresh filtered air circulates on-board 50 times an hour.
Our experts conducted a series of tests examining the air flow on board our buses. Tests showed open windows disrupt the indoor air quality. HVAC systems work effectively by keeping the bus windows closed and rear roof hatch open, creating an air vacuum forcing onboard air out.
Reminder: while masks are now optional on-board AC Transit, we still highly recommend wearing them on the bus. Masks and hand sanitizer will continue to be available on-board.
Hitting new highs again! You’ve helped us reach more than 2.7 million riders in March, the most in a single month since the beginning of the pandemic. This is also a 17 percent growth from February.
If you’re not caught up on all of our changes, take a look: http://ow.ly/cOOs50IIfPa
Bus Etiquette: Eating on Board
😋 Thinking about eating on the bus? Masks are still required on board, plus we ask that you don’t eat while on board AC Transit. Thank you for following the rules, keeping our buses clean and our community safe.
