Haiti: political opposition grows

Haiti is bracing for widespread protests as opposition leaders demand that President Jovenel Moïse step down next month as an increasingly tired and angry population worries he is amassing too much power as he enters his second year of rule by decree

Fifteen years ago, Pastor John Rutsindintwarane began teaching community organizing to leaders in the isolated rural community of Mumeya. They chose the construction of a health clinic as their highest priority. This past year, PICO Rwanda leaders completed the construction of a third clinic in Nyarubuye. The impact of this work is profound. It demonstrates how communities can successfully partner with government and generate ripples of local development in rural communities. https://faithinactioninternational.org/rwanda-clinics-built-by-local-communities-undergird-a-national-health-system-and-spark-development/

COFOA launched a national land rights campaign this past year. The RENACER (meaning reborn) campaign is giving hope to thousands of families across El Salvador. Approached by a few women in 2019, COFOA began organizing people from the residential development community in La Galilea to get legal title to the properties they paid for 20 years ago. After a year's work, eighty families celebrated when the national minister of housing presented clear titles to all of them, collectively worth over one million dollars. https://faithinactioninternational.org/el-salvador-cofoas-land-reform-campaign-will-benefit-300000-families/://faithinactioninternational.org/el-salvador-cofoas-land-reform-campaign-will-benefit-300000-families/

Rwanda emerges as world leader in the fight against Covid-19 – leading macroeconomic influencers

Rwanda rebuilt its healthcare system after the 1994 genocide, and just 26 years later, has emerged as a world leader in responding to the pandemic. For instance, Covid-19 death tolls in the US exceeded 330,000 out of a population of 330 million, while Rwanda reported just 62 deaths amongst a population of 12.3 million.

Economists believe that despite poor healthcare systems, Rwanda has emerged as a clear winner in the fight against Covid-19.

Haiti has finally come up with a date for elections. But there are concerns

Haiti elections set: "The schedule will draw Haitians to the polls in April to vote on a new constitution and in September to cast ballots for lawmakers and president. That timeline makes it clear that Moïse intends to continue with his one-man rule for months to come, defying the U.S. and Organization of American States."

Haitian President Jovenel Moïse’s elections commission has set a date for the country’s long overdue parliamentary elections and a controversial constitutional referendum that he is pushing to introduce before leaving office.
