High Expectations is dedicated to helping schools to make systematic changes that can be sustained over time. We effectively create school cultures where parents assume their role as their child’s primary educator. We do this by empowering the school community to create and sustain this culture long term.

APAG 2/9/13 Field Trip to California Academy of Sciences Update:

A total of 23 kids and 14 adults enjoyed exploring the California Academy of Sciences on Saturday, February 9th. Paul Revere School was well represented by the African-American Parents Advisory Group, as orchestrated by Angela Stone, Program Manager for High Expectations. This first official outing included a group “Visit to Coral Reef” Exhibit, then lunches from Subway and free time to check out the Earthquake and Rainforest Exhibits in addition to the Natural History Museum. For most of the participants, this was their first visit to this museum. Angela says, “The best part was seeing the kids, smile, laugh and learn.”

Just A Thought...

Christmas is behind us. The New Year is here. I don't believe in New Year's Resolutions because I just set myself up for disappointment. But I do believe in setting goals and creating a plan for success.

Many of us parents have one more week of vacation with our children. Let's take the time to tell our children what we want for their lives. Sit them down and discuss goals for the rest of the school year. Write the goals down and have a plan for how they can achieve them.

I'm going to also let my boys know that I am proud of them and I believe in them and that I set such high expectations because I know that they are capable of doing great things!

Share your thoughts.

I am a good parent! I am a good parent! I am a good parent! That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

But seriously. Good parents often go to bed at night and question themselves. We question the decisions we make for our children. Is this the right school? Was I too tough on my child? Was I tough enough?

At the end of the day, we have to reflect on our vision for our children. What do we want to see in their future? And we have to rest assured that our vision will become a reality. As we nurture, educate and discipline our children, we must believe that we will reach our goal!

I am a good parent! I am a good parent!

Last week we graduated a wonderful group of families at Paul Revere Elementary School and Dr. George Washington Carver in San Francisco. They now join the the other 2 sets of parent leaders at their school. They are encouraged to serve on the PTA, ELAC and African-American Parent Group at their schools.
