Black Intergenerational Zeal - BIZ Stoop

It's not too late to complete your census! BIZ Stoop is working hard to help BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) young adults under 30 submit their census. They are offering stipends and raffle prizes for participation. For more information, see BIZ Stoop's post below.

Morning everyone,

Our social enterprise is helping to outreach to BIPOC young adults (under 30) for Census 2020. We have $5 stipends + raffle prizes for their participation. Stipends can be paid out in several non-physical cash (like over an app; virtual gift card; etc). Prizes will be announced in June. If your family has or knows a young person living in the house and you all haven’t completed your census - please have them reach out to me here, on our page or on Instagram @BIZStoop . I’m also reachable via phone at (510) 827-7316

Our priority outreach zones include neighborhoods in: Deep East; East Oakland; Berkeley; Hayward; TriCities; Richmond; El Cerritos - all flat lands and unincorporated communities in between.

This outreach is funded by: United Way of the Bay Area and Urban Strategies Council.

"When The New York Times invited young women to share their lives in photographs, the result was the stunning feature, “This Is 18,” a portrait of girlhood across six continents and 12 time zones through the eyes of girls themselves. That 2018 project is now a remarkable book, This Is 18, hailed as “a perfect tribute to girlhood” that gives readers a rare glimpse at the realities and interests of their contemporaries around the globe."

The Main Library TeenZone has revamped their zine collection! We've combed through our old zines that were piling up, and curated a smaller collection for our Oakland teens. We'd love more zines made by youth, so if you or someone you know has made something you'd like to add, please get in touch!

P.S. Main 1st floor houses the Library's Adult zine collection, and Golden Gate Branch just rolled out theirs! A collection is forthcoming at Lakeview Branch.

Did the sickout affect your school?

“Students are primarily the people that are affected the most by educational issues,” said Samuel Getachew, a junior at Oakland Tech, who helped organize the march. “I think too often our power and our voice is disregarded, and we're not included in the conversations we should be included in.”

Samuel (this year's Vice Laureate) has been busy!
