Trump's Wealth Tax Plan Is A Billion Times More Radical Than Ocasio's Marginal Tax Rate Proposal

Why the United States Needs a Federal Wealth Tax

The goals of raising revenue and addressing inequality will be difficult to achieve if federal tax policy continues to focus on taxing income almost exclusively.

One reason is that wealth inequality is much greater than income inequality. The 1 percent of Americans with the highest incomes receive about a fifth of the total income in the United States. In contrast, the top 1 percent of wealth holders in the nation own 42 percent of the nation’s wealth... Story: https://goo.gl/48gmT1

Barack Obama Goes All In Politically to Fight Gerrymandering

OFA will now be folded into the NRDC and OFA will cease to exist almost immediately. I think if this had happened 3-4 years ago I would have been upset but OFA has done its job and I'm proud of the work I've been able to do with OFA beginning back in New York from 2007 to today through two presidential campaigns. I've had the honor and pleasure of mentoring young organizers, working to secure ACA and all of this work will continue for all of us but now under new umbrellas. There will always be an issue for us to work toward. The fight to end gerrymandering, finally establish single payer for every American and continue to fight for the rights of all US citizens especially our most vulnerable populations including our current fight to protect refugees coming to this country for the chance at a better life. Here's to all of that and along the way we remember to Respect, Empower, Include and Act! From all of us at OFA East Bay OFA Fellows and Immigrant ALERT #OFAforever Organizing for Action

An Open Letter to Our Facebook Friends

Over the last year, NAACP has expressed concerns about the numerous data breaches and privacy mishaps in which Facebook has been implicated. And since the onset of the Silicon Valley boom, we have been openly critical about the lack of employee diversity among the top technology firms in the country. Now, the time has come for our collective actions to emulate the severity of mistrust we have in Facebook.

Recent revelations that Facebook hired an opposition research firm and worked with other deeply partisan strategy firms call into question the notion that Facebook operates with a non-partisan view.

NAACP has returned a monetary donation we recently received from Facebook, and we are calling on supporters to log out of Facebook and Instagram on Tuesday, December 18. We implore you, our partners, friends, and supporters to join us.

#LogOutFacebook

#LogOutFacebook is a protest—a way to signify to Facebook that the data and privacy of its users of color matter more than its corporate interests. We want to send a message that, as the largest social network in the world, it is Facebook's corporate social responsibility to ensure that people of color are well represented in their workforce and recognize that users of color have a right to be protected from propaganda and misinformation.

We know that Facebook is important to many of our supporters, and through the use of this platform, we have been able to engage, educate and mobilize our supporters in ways that were not possible 15 years ago. However, Facebook has to do better.

Join us. Post the graphic below on your social media and encourage your friends to log out of Facebook and Instagram on Tuesday, December 18 using the hashtag #LogOutFacebook.

In solidarity,

Derrick Johnson

League of Women Voters of the U.S.

Facebook’s engagement with partisan firms, targeting of political opponents, spread of misinformation, and utilization of propaganda promoting disingenuous portrayals of the African American community is reprehensible. We're standing in solidarity with the NAACP and calling on users to log out of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp tomorrow, December 18.
