Week 3 of the City Path Electric Summer Academy is officially in the books! ⚡🌟

The energy and engagement from this incredible group continue to impress us week after week.

This week, students focused on two essential skills used throughout the electric utility industry: equipment disassembly and reassembly, along with proper ladder setup and safety procedures. These hands-on lessons are helping them build a strong foundation while reinforcing the importance of working safely and efficiently in the field.

One of the best parts of the week has been seeing the students fully engaged in the learning process. They are taking notes, asking thoughtful questions, and showing a genuine interest in understanding the work and the opportunities available in the electric utility industry.

Their enthusiasm and commitment to learning make it clear that they are getting the most out of this experience, and we could not be more proud of their progress so far.
As we head into Week 4, we are excited to see what new skills, knowledge, and experiences await this outstanding inaugural class.

OEU is aware of the power outage that occurred this morning in the Airport Industrial area. Thanks to our team’s quick and coordinated response, power was safely restored in less than an hour.

We appreciate your patience and support as we worked to get everything back up and running as quickly and safely as possible.

🌟 Week 2 of the City Path Electric Summer Academy is in the books! 🌟

This week, our students got hands-on once again as they dove into two essential foundations of electric utility work: Tools and Their Uses and Proper Care and Wear of PPE.

Our instructors walked the class through the tools they’ll rely on throughout the summer, explaining what each one does and how it plays a role in the field. The students wasted no time putting that knowledge into practice, asking great questions and getting comfortable with equipment they’ll see every day in the industry.

They also learned one of the most important lessons in this line of work—how to correctly wear and care for personal protective equipment. From hard hats and safety glasses to gloves and proper footwear, the group gained a deeper understanding of how PPE helps keep crews safe on the job.

We’re incredibly proud of how quickly they’re picking things up and how engaged they’ve been so far. If the momentum keeps up, this is going to be an unforgettable summer of learning and growth at Ocala Electric Utility.

🌟 Week 1 of the City Path Electric Summer Academy is officially wrapped! 🌟

What a great start for our very first class. This week, our students met OEU Director Doug Peebles and Deputy Director Chad Lynch, along with the instructors who will be working with them throughout the summer.

They also got an overview of what the program is all about, hands on learning, real world electric utility experience and a chance to explore future career opportunities with OEU.

Today’s big lesson focused on a key skill they will use often, how to take accurate linear measurements. They jumped right in and did an awesome job.
We could not be more excited for this inaugural group.

If Week 1 is any sign of what is ahead, we are in for an amazing summer of learning, growth and discovery in the world of electric utilities here at Ocala Electric Utility.

🎉 Congratulations, Marion County Public Schools! 🎉

As students, teachers, and staff wrap up their last week of school, we want to send a huge congratulations on another successful year! Your hard work, dedication, and resilience shine through every day, and our community is better because of you.

Last week, we had the pleasure of joining Ocala Springs Elementary and East Marion Elementary for their Career Days. Wow, what an amazing time!

The students had an absolute blast with our Van de Graaff generator, learning about electricity in the most hair-raising way possible. Our T&D Linemen also gave hands-on demonstrations about the vital work they do year-round to keep Ocala powered.

Of course, we can’t forget Mr. Hank, who had everyone laughing as he showed off just how long an extended hot stick really is—especially during a storm!

Thank you to the schools for welcoming us, and thank you to all Marion County Public Schools teachers and staff for another incredible year of shaping young minds. Enjoy your well‑deserved summer break! 🌞📚⚡
