Ever wondered what it takes to keep the lights on in our community? Here's your chance to find out!

Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming the HEART Homeschool group to Ocala Electric Utility (OEU) for an exciting, behind-the-scenes look at the work our dedicated teams do each and every day!

From Leadership Ocala/Marion (LOM) to local homeschool groups, nonprofit organizations and other community partners, we love opening our doors and sharing what it means to be your hometown power provider! 💡

⚡ Our Hometown Heroes Are Back Home! 🏡

There's no place like home, and we're happy to share that our Ocala Electric Utility lineworkers have safely returned to Ocala after assisting with hurricane recovery efforts in Evergreen, Alabama!

When the call came for help, our crews didn't hesitate. They packed up, hit the road and went to work helping another community get its lights back on.

We're incredibly proud of the dedication, teamwork and heart these gentlemen displayed throughout their deployment. It's a reminder that public power is about more than keeping the lights on. It's about people helping people.

A big thank-you to the Florida Municipal Electric Association (FMEA) for helping coordinate mutual aid efforts and to the families of our lineworkers for supporting them while they were away.

⚡ Leadership, Learning, and a Behind-the-Scenes Look at Public Power!

We had a great morning welcoming Leadership Ocala/Marion (LOM) to Ocala Electric Utility!

Our guests kicked off the day with some coffee and conversation before getting an inside look at the electric utility industry, including a pole-climbing demonstration and the opportunity to meet and engage with the dedicated OEU team members who help keep the lights on in Ocala! 💡

Programs like LOM provide an incredible opportunity for community leaders to connect, ask questions, and gain a better understanding of the essential services that power our community.

We're proud to share our story, showcase our hardworking teams, and help develop the next generation of community leaders.

A special thank-you to the Ocala Metro Chamber and Economic Partnership for creating and leading this outstanding program. We appreciate the opportunity to be part of it!

⚡ Exploring Career Paths, One Experience at a Time!

What a great way to kick off the week! 🙌

Today, we welcomed students ranging from middle school through recent high school graduates for our City Path Training Academy Orientation!

We started the day with some friendly competition and learning through Kahoot!, before breaking into smaller groups with team members from several OEU departments. We were able to dive deeper into the electric utility industry and the many career opportunities available right here in our community.

And what better way to wrap up the day than with some bucket truck rides? ⚡

Our City Path Program is all about introducing the next generation to careers in public power, creating meaningful connections and helping students discover opportunities they may not have known existed.

A big thank-you to our OEU team members who took time out of their day to share their knowledge and experiences, and to the students who joined us with curiosity, enthusiasm and plenty of great questions!

Education. Community. Connection. And lots of smiles! 😁

⚡ When disaster strikes, public power answers the call!

Our Ocala Electric Utility lineworkers are on the road to Evergreen, Alabama, to assist with power restoration efforts following the recent hurricane.

Through mutual aid partnerships coordinated by the Florida Municipal Electric Association (FMEA), public power communities come together when it matters most. Today, it's our turn to lend a helping hand.

We're proud of our hometown heroes who are stepping up, leaving their families behind and answering the call to help another community in need.

Please join us in wishing our crews safe travels and praying for their safety as they work to help restore power to those impacted by the storm.

⚡ Celebrating Public Power Week by celebrating one of our own! ⚡

Congratulations to Ocala Electric Utility Working Foreman Lamar Peebles, who was recently honored with the Florida Municipal Electric Association (FMEA) Professional Excellence Award!

Presented by FMEA Director of Member Services Elizabeth Bendele, the award recognizes Lamar’s more than 25 years of experience in the electric utility industry, his leadership and his commitment to public power.

Throughout his career, Lamar has developed expertise in both overhead transmission and distribution and underground systems. He has answered the call for mutual aid assignments and even traveled to New Guinea to help a nonprofit build a new power line for a hospital — using manual tools of the trade.

A U.S. military veteran, Lamar brings a strong work ethic, leadership and dedication to every job and to the community he serves.

We are proud to have Lamar on the OEU team and grateful to Florida Municipal Electric Association (FMEA) for recognizing his outstanding contributions to public power.

Congratulations, Lamar, on this well-deserved honor! 👏⚡

Are you a student in sixth grade through a recent high school graduate interested in learning more about careers with Ocala Electric Utility?

Join us next Monday, Oct. 12, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lillian Bryant Community Center for the City Path Orientation – Discover YOUR Path!

Students will have the opportunity to:

🔹 Explore careers in the electric utility industry
🔹 Learn about educational and career opportunities with OEU
🔹 Take part in hands-on demonstrations and get an inside look at the work performed in the electric utility industry

At Ocala Electric Utility, Public Power Week is an opportunity for us to highlight what makes public power unique, our commitment to serving the community we’re a part of. ⚡️

Over the years, our team has partnered with Interfaith Emergency Services to support programs that directly benefit local families. From packing backpacks for students in our area schools 🎒 to assisting in the food pantry, these efforts reflect the values we strive to uphold as a public power utility.

Today, a group of OEU employees spent time volunteering at Interfaith and had the privilege of meeting some of the long-standing volunteers who dedicate their time to supporting our community. It was a meaningful reminder of how fortunate Ocala is to have organizations like Interfaith providing essential resources to our neighbors.
Interfaith continues to seek community support. If you have the ability to volunteer or donate items, your contribution can make a real difference.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to serve and for the partnerships that help strengthen our community during Public Power Week and all year long!
