Macon County Schools Important Update

IMPORTANT MCSS SCHOOL CLOSURE NOTICE

It pains me to share that the Macon County School System will not be able to have school tomorrow, Friday, August 28, 2026 for our students. All Teachers need to report to the Middle/High School Cafeteria from 10:00am-2:00pm for Professional Learning.

Any Teachers who reside in Oglethorpe, GA please contact your immediate supervisor.

This evening, a significant portion of our residents in the City of Oglethorpe are without water. Unfortunately, Macon County Elementary School is also without water, and a boil water advisory has been issued. Under these circumstances, we must allow the appropriate time and clearance before water can safely be used throughout the school building.

We understand the inconvenience that an unexpected school closure creates for our students, families, and employees, and we sincerely apologize. However, the health, safety, and sanitation of our students and staff must remain at the center of this decision.

We will continue to monitor the situation and communicate any additional information that may impact school operations.

Thank you to our MCSS families, employees, and community for your patience and understanding.

Dr. Johnathan B. Roberts, Jr.
Superintendent
Macon County School System
