DEFENDANT SENTENCED TO 100 YEARS IN PRISON FOR LEWD OR INDECENT ACTS TO A CHILD UNDER 16

PONTOTOC COUNTY — District Attorney Erik Johnson announced that Rondal Scrogum Jr., 35, of Pontotoc County, was sentenced today by District Judge Steve Kessinger to the following:

Count 1: Lewd or Indecent Acts to a Child Under 16, a felony 100 years

Following the defendant’s plea of no contest, the court sentenced Scrogum to 100 years in custody of the Oklahoma Department of Corrections.

“There is no place in our communities for individuals who sexually exploit children,” said District Attorney Erik Johnson. “The defendant’s conduct warranted a significant sentence, and today’s outcome sends a clear message that crimes against children will be met with serious consequences. Protecting children remains one of the highest priorities of this office, and we will continue to work tirelessly to seek justice for victims and hold offenders accountable.”

“This sentence reflects the gravity of the offense and the profound impact these crimes have on child victims,” said Assistant District Attorney Tara Portillo. “Given the nature of this case, the significant sentence imposed by the Court was appropriate and necessary. Our goal was to ensure accountability, protecting the community, and seek justice on behalf of the victims.”

District Attorney Johnson commended Assistant District Attorney Portillo for her diligent prosecution of the case and her unwavering commitment to pursuing justice on behalf of the victims. Johnson also recognized Detective Taylor Lowe of the Ada Police Department for her professionalism, compassion, and thorough investigative work, which played a critical role in building the case and securing justice for the victim.

A Broken Arrow man is in custody, charged with five counts of child sexual abuse.

WHO: 43 year old Timothy Elliott

ARRESTED BY:
U.S. Marshal's Northern OK Violent Crimes Task Force along with the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office. Broken Arrow Police and OHP.

WHAT THE PROBABLE CAUSE AFFIDAVIT SAYS HAPPENED:
-It is so graphic, there is very little that can be reported.

-In January, a student told a school principal, her friend was being molested by Elliott.
-That principal called police and the girl being abused, was interviewed and confirmed numerous cases of sexual abuse starting at age 5 and continuing for many years.
-That investigation led to a second victim who said Elliott began abusing her in 5th grade and it also continued for a long time.
-It says during after many of the incidents, Elliott would cry and promise not to do it again.
-One of the victims said, she no longer believes in promises.
-It says he told the victims not to tell because he would go to jail and he would make them feel guilty, which is why they didn't tell for a long time.

-It says in 2017, Elliott was in Florida and stayed with a friend and the friend's 10 year old daughter said Elliott came into her room in the middle of the night and molested her.
-It says Elliott told the girl, he was sorry.
-She told her parents, who reported it to police, but the DA there, decided there wasn't enough evidence to file charges at the time.

-The current charges are not convictions.
