Rocky's Wildlife Rescue

Rocky's Wildlife Rescue We are no longer rehabbing at this time.

06/25/2026

This is one of the hardest posts I've ever had to write.

After a lot of prayer and soul searching, I have made the difficult decision to step away from wildlife rehabilitation for the time being.

This isn't because I've stopped caring. If anything, it's because I care so deeply that I know these animals deserve someone who can give them everything they need.

Right now, my life is full. I have a house that desperately needs repairs, I am a full-time caregiver for Gerry, and I have my own health issues that need my attention. My heart wants to keep saying "yes" to every animal in need, but my mind and body are telling me I need to slow down.

Please know this decision has not come easily. There have been tears, guilt, and a broken heart behind it. Wildlife rehabilitation has been one of the greatest blessings and purposes in my life. Every tiny paw, every curious nose, every successful release has left a permanent mark on my heart.

I truly hope this is not goodbye forever. My hope is that once life settles down and my circumstances improve, I'll be able to open my heart and home to wildlife again.

Until then, thank you for understanding, for supporting me, and for loving these precious creatures as much as I do.

Wildlife rescue is not all sweet baby faces and soft little paws.

It is beautiful, yes, but it is also hard, messy, painful, expensive, exhausting, and heartbreaking. Still, somehow, it is part of who I am.

The scars on my arms tell stories. Every mark came from a wild baby I was trying to help. Some of those scars belong to animals I fought hard to save. Some belong to animals I held close while they took their last breath. Either way, every scar means I showed up.

People often say, “I want a baby raccoon,” or “I would love to raise wildlife.”

I understand that feeling. Baby raccoons are adorable. So are opossums, squirrels, skunks, fawns, and all the other little wild souls that come through a rehabber’s door. But wildlife rehabilitation is not about cuddles and cute pictures.

It is feedings around the clock.
It is laundry that never ends.
It is p**p in places p**p should never be.
It is formula, cages, heat, medicine, gloves, towels, gas, supplies, and money that often comes straight out of our own pockets.
It is being scratched, climbed, bitten, peed on, and p**ped on.
It is arms that look rough, hands that stay tired, and a heart that keeps breaking and healing at the same time.

Raccoons do not bite because they are bad. They bite because they are raccoons. They bite when they are scared, playful, hungry, hurting, overwhelmed, or simply being wild. That is what they are supposed to be.

And that is the whole point.

My job is not to turn them into pets. My job is to help them grow strong enough to go back where they belong.

So before you say, “I want to raise baby wildlife,” please understand what that really means. It takes training, licensing, sacrifice, money, patience, and a heart strong enough to love them without keeping them.

If that still calls to you, contact a licensed wildlife rescue and learn the right way.

Because wildlife rescue is not about owning something wild.

It is about giving the wild a second chance. 🦝🦨🦌🐾

Look at these precious babies. 2 sisters, May and June less than a week old.
So many wildlife rehabbers are quitting or overwhelmed, which means I am taking in more babies than I originally planned because there simply is nowhere else for many of them to go.
Tonight I took in 2 neonatal raccoons. Tiny, fragile little lives that need around-the-clock care, formula, heating support, bedding, cleaning supplies, and constant monitoring.
Right now, I am running dangerously low on supplies.
If anyone would like to help, I have added much needed items to my wishlist. Every single item helps more than you know — whether it’s formula, syringes, blankets, heating pads, cleaning supplies, or feeding supplies. Formula is a top priority.
Wildlife rehab is exhausting, emotional, expensive, and time consuming… but these babies deserve a chance.
I cannot do this alone.
Thank you to everyone who continues to support, encourage, donate, share posts, pray, and cheer these babies on. You are part of every single rescue story. 💛

Tonight was one of the worst cases of fly strike and maggot infestation I have ever seen on an animal.
The smell hit before we even fully saw the extent of it.
Maggots covered him… and every time we thought we had found them all, more would appear.
As we carefully shaved away fur, we discovered a wound on his belly about the size of a quarter, packed full of maggots. He also has puncture wounds on his head, inside his mouth, and under his chin… all infested as well.
Tonight became a race against time.
We combed.
We flushed.
We treated every wound we could find.
He was dosed heavily with Capstar, including flushing the wounds, and he is now medicated, warm, and finally resting.
Underneath all the pain, fear, infection, and suffering… there is still a living soul fighting to survive.
Cases like this are heartbreaking because no animal should ever suffer this long before getting help. But tonight, at least, he is no longer suffering alone.
Please keep this little guy in your prayers, good thoughts, and healing wishes tonight. He has a very hard road ahead of him, but we are going to fight right alongside him. 🧡🐾

This is Peg'e. The little fighter that has only 2 feet and no tail. Her favorite thing to eat is chicken baby food. I have to mix her other stuff in there too. But look at her eat. She is healing well. I love to watch her and hear her eat. If anyone wants to contribute to her or any of the other rescued babies I have, I am sharing the link below.
I am permitted. It takes a village!!!

Meet Peg’e Drag’en 🐉💛
This tiny girl has already taken me through more panic attacks than she will ever know.
Peg’e Drag’en chewed both of her back feet off and has no tail… and there were moments I truly did not know if she was going to make it. The sleepless nights, constant monitoring, medications, wound care, saline soaks, and prayers have all been part of her journey.
But this little warrior keeps proving she is stronger than her circumstances.
Today, she is healing well. 🥹
She may never look “perfect” by the world’s standards, but to me, she is absolutely beautiful. Every scar tells a story of survival, resilience, and the will to keep fighting.
Wildlife rehab is not always pretty. Sometimes it is exhausting, heartbreaking, and terrifying. But then there are moments like this… when a tiny life that should have given up chooses not to.
And somehow, that makes every hard moment worth it.
Please keep Peg’e Drag’en in your thoughts as she continues healing. 💛
