Recently, we had the privilege of attending the Washington Youth Academy - NGYCP Class 26-1 Commencement at Pacific Lutheran University and celebrating the achievements of an incredible group of young Washingtonians.

Over the past 22 weeks, these cadets have challenged themselves to overcome barriers, build confidence, strengthen their educational and employment potential, and discover what they are capable of achieving. Their stories of perseverance and growth were truly inspiring.

Congratulations to the members of the Wolfpack, Spartans, and Eagles platoons on reaching this milestone. Your dedication and resilience are a testament to the life-changing work being done by the Washington Youth Challenge Academy and the Washington Military Department.

We look forward to seeing the positive impact these graduates will have as responsible, productive members of their communities.

One sign, one message, or one phone number can save a life.

Communities across the country are finding new ways to make help visible, including placing 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline signs in public spaces where someone may be struggling alone. These signs serve as a simple but powerful reminder: you are not alone, and support is available. Recent efforts in Berkeley County, South Carolina, have placed 988 signs at county boat landings to connect people in crisis with immediate help and resources.

For Veterans, reaching out can be difficult, but help is always available. If you or someone you know is experiencing emotional distress, a mental health crisis, or thoughts of su***de, call or text 988 and press 1 to connect with the Veterans Crisis Line.

A conversation can save a life. A sign can offer hope. And asking for help is a sign of strength.

They are the first friendly face many Residents see in the morning and often the last to wish them goodnight. They provide comfort, compassion, care through every moment in between, and so much more.

This Nursing Assistants Week, we celebrate the incredible nursing assistants at our Washington Veterans Homes. From assisting with daily activities and monitoring health needs to building meaningful relationships with Residents, they are at the heart of everything we do.

This year's theme, "We're Unbelievable," couldn't be more fitting. Their compassion, resilience, and dedication help our Veterans live with dignity, comfort, and quality of life every day.

To our nursing assistants: Thank you for your unwavering commitment to serving those who served. Your work is extraordinary, and we are grateful for all you do.

The Wall That Heals is coming to Lacey, WA!

We are proud to announce that The Wall That Heals will be in Lacey, WA on June 25–28, 2026. It will be open to the public 24 hours a day and free to all visitors.

The Wall That Heals is a three-quarter-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. It stands 7.5 feet high at its tallest point and 375 feet long. Established by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund in 1996, this replica and its 53-foot Education Center have traveled to more than 800 cities, honoring the more than three million Americans who served in the U.S. Armed Forces during the Vietnam War. The Wall bears the names of the 58,281 men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam.

The Education Center contains artifacts and digital displays that tell the story of the Vietnam War, the establishment of The Wall, and how Vietnam transformed the way our nation treats its Veterans and service members. It will also display photographs of those whose names are on the Wall and feature the “In Memory” program, honoring local Veterans who returned home from Vietnam and later passed away.

To submit the name and photograph of a loved one for the “In Memory” program, learn more, sign up for tours, volunteer, or make a donation, visit www.thewallthathealslaceywa.org or email Jorge Castillon at [email protected]
