It’s back!!!! We are SO happy our new library is finished and was installed today!

Little Library update: We've been asked a lot lately if/when our little library will be back up. We have some good news and some bad news to share. Let's start with the bad and end with the good!

Bad news: When our library was vandalized last spring, initially we thought there was only damage to the legs and the doors. We spent several months trying to come up with fixes for the damage. Unfortunately, the extent of the damage went beyond our first impression. When we tried to repair/replace the legs, we realized that when it was pushed over, the main structural integrity where the legs connect was also compromised. The main part of the library was no longer structurally sound enough to support the new legs we purchased. The roof had also sustained damage so unfortunately not much of our library was left to be re-used. We came to the hard realization that we were going to have to start over and instead of repair we were going to have to replace. I started looking at purchasing a "ready-to-go" little library online, but all of the options were much smaller than our library and I was feeling really sad to have to downgrade.

Now for the good news: We decided since this library was so loved, we would do our best to try to re-create the structure as close to possible to the one that was destroyed. I found a carpenter who is able to re-create the size/shape of the destroyed library and he has been working to re-build. We asked him to use as much of the old one as possible (most likely will end up just being the shingles, plexiglass and hardware). Once he has completed the structure, I will paint it and we will get it back in the ground and loaded with books as soon as we can. We don't have an exact timeline, but hopefully within the next couple of months it will be re-opened. We will keep you posted!

The boys who vandalized the library were located and 5/6 of them offered an apology for their role in the destruction. We appreciated most of the boys taking ownership and we hope they make better choices in the future and never do something like this again. Their parents had also agreed to help pay for the repairs, but unfortunately none of the parents have honored their word to contribute toward the repair. We are hoping they will still do the right thing and assist financially with the repair/replacement.

Our repairs on the little library have been taking longer than we hoped, but in the meantime we have set out a cart with some books in front of our porch. I’ll try to have it out as long as long as the weather is nice. Please come by and take some books to read!

Unfortunately, our little library was vandalized and badly damaged tonight. The library will be closed until further notice. :(

Update: I found the “free bookmarks” label in our front yard and later tonight my husband found the bin in someone’s yard up the street while he was walking our dog. Glad to have it back. We will keep refilling it and hopefully it will stay put in the library going forward!

We've really been enjoying making and sharing bookmarks in our little library lately! Unfortunately, today we noticed that the entire bin for the free bookmarks is missing. If you or your child accidentally took the bin along with the bookmarks, we would love to have the bin back so we can continue to give away fun bookmarks! Thank you!

Thanks to a generous donation from a neighbor, the little library now has some great books for teens! Thank you for helping us fill that gap!

Thanks to a generous donation from my Buy Nothing group, the little library just had a massive re-stock! Especially kids books (all ages)! Come by and grab some great summer reads!

…annnnnnd WE ARE BACK OPEN!!!! Hooray!!! Biggest thanks to our kind neighbors the Webers! Jeremy hand-made beautiful brand new doors to replace the storm-damaged ones. They are more weather resistant and even have plexi-glass so they won’t shatter! Our library has never been happier! Come by and find some great summer reads! 📚❤️📚

Our little library is currently closed for construction to protect the books from the weather. A kind neighbor offered to make a new door after one was destroyed in a storm. We are so grateful and will get the library reopened as soon as possible!

I forgot to post that the library is all fixed and back in shape to share books, after being damaged by the last big wind storm! A little wood glue plus a little love got it patched back together. ❤️
