Our Congressional Advocacy Program is back! ✊🏽

Huey P. Newton, who helped redefine what Black power and community self-determination could look like, was murdered on this date in 1989 in West Oakland, California.

Newton co-founded the Black Panther Party in 1966, helping build a movement rooted in racial justice, community empowerment, and political organizing. Under his leadership, the Panthers developed programs including the Free Breakfast for Children Program and community health initiatives while challenging police brutality and systemic inequality.

His legacy remains part of the broader story of Black resistance, organizing, and the ongoing fight for justice and liberation. May he continue to rest in power.

The school year is almost here, and so is something our families in North Omaha look forward to every year. ❤️

After-School Program enrollment is happening during Back to School on August 17 and 18!

We’re talking real support for real students at King Elementary, Franklin Elementary, and Monroe Middle School. The kind of support that shows up every afternoon, does the work, and sends kids home with more confidence than they came with.

Here’s what your student gets when they walk through our doors:

Eligible youth ages 19–24 may qualify for supportive services and paid Work Experience opportunities through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act

(WIOA) Youth Program. Participants can receive career guidance, employment support, and hands-on work experience to help them build skills and prepare for long-term employment.

The Urban League of Nebraska’s Career Boot Camp is an intensive program designed to give you the skills and training you need to work in a high demand career field in Omaha today. There will be hands-on activities, guest speakers, and employment opportunities.

Mandatory Boot Camp Orientation and WIOA Enrollment Dates (must attend both days):

Tuesday, September 1, 2026 and Wednesday, September 2, 2026
9:00am - 12:00pm

Career Boot Camp Dates:
Tuesday, September 8, 2026 - Friday, September 25, 2026
