If you are a Republican who SUPPORTS ranked choice voting, I’d love to hear from you:

Republicans, WHY do you support #rankedchoicevoting? What is it about this idea that APPEALS to your conservative values?

What is Ranked Choice Voting?

Do you know what ranked choice voting is? Here's a quick explainer video below:

I've introduced a bill in the Nebraska Legislature that would allow voters to rank their preferences in elections for the Legislature, governor, Congress and the Senate.

Ranked choice voting is good for democracy.

In most parts of the United States, voters select a single candidate for each position on their ballot, and the candidate with the most votes wins. This is k...

For the record, legalizing medicinal marijuana will NOT kill your kids and anybody who tells you that is still living in 1950.

02/11/2021

Dear Republican elected officials,

Your kids and grandkids will one day look back at this moment in history. They will watch the impeachment trial. They will see the videos and they will closely inspect what YOU were doing during this time.

If you looked the other way-or worse yet supported Trump- they will know and they WILL be embarrassed.

…but it’s not too late to change all of this with your actions today.

Support this impeachment. What occurred was unprecedented and unacceptable. We cannot allow it to go unchecked.

Just do the right thing.

There is a cancer INSIDE the Republican Party, and that cancer is Trumpism. Just because Trump is gone doesn’t mean Trumpism will go away (Marjorie Taylor Greene is currently in Congress).

When we look at this disease, we tend to focus on Republican outliers…Trump or Greene…but this is not where we should be spending our time.

We need to focus on the buttoned-up "civilized" elected Republicans who continue to LOOK THE OTHER WAY to the craziness consuming the GOP.

These "well-behaved" members of the Republican Party (you know the type) provide the oxygen to every conspiracy lie by remaining silent. By not REFUTING this dangerous nonsense, they add credibility to these unfounded ideas.

If you are an elected Republican and are afraid to call out this thinking because "you might lose voters," why the hell did you get in to politics? Are you more concerned with staying in office or doing the right thing?

Don’t sell your soul to a pernicious cult. Stand up and be counted. Your country needs you.

Half of all Republicans support the assault of the Capitol yesterday.

The Republican Party has devolved into a cult of Trump.

Sedition by the President of the United States cannot be tolerated. Invoke the 25th Amendment or move to impeach. Equal Justice under the law.

01/07/2021

When you pump your base full of lies and stupid conspiracies for 4 years, THIS is the natural end point.

This isn’t a Trump problem. This is a Republican Party problem.

01/07/2021

Every Republican politician who looked the other way these past 4 years is COMPLICIT in all of this. This insurrection is on them.

Supreme Court Rejects Trump Bid to Overturn Election Results

Good.

The U.S. Supreme Court rejected the bid by Texas and President Donald Trump to nullify the election results in four pivotal states in an abrupt order that could be the legal gravestone for his drive to overturn President-elect Joe Biden’s victory.

12/10/2020

Hey Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton,

Does your baseless lawsuit to invalidate the vote of the people have anything to do with YOU being under investigation by the FBI for alleged bribery and abuse of office? Looking for a pardon?

Keep your illegality to yourself.

12/10/2020

It is shameful and embarrassing that Nebraska Attorney General Doug Peterson is supporting a baseless lawsuit to invalidate the vote of the people. How can one claim to care about laws and justice yet echo the same conspiracy nonsense that comes out of the White House? So embarrassing.

Why do some Republican leaders refuse to issue mask mandates? Because in their warped sense of conservatism, ANY “rule” from the government is Soviet style OPPRESSION!

But it’s not. We have LAWS against smoking indoors in service of public health. That is exactly what this is.

Mask mandates are proven to SAVE LIVES. Any leader worth his salt should be issuing them if they haven’t already.

11/25/2020

Nebraska needs a mask mandate.

11/22/2020

Behind closed doors, many Republican politicians acknowledge that Trump is a conman but DON’T have the courage to say so publicly.

“Profiles In Courage” leaders they are not.

11/21/2020

The Republican party is once AGAIN enabling a misguided lame duck president. The country’s welfare, particularly during a pandemic, DEPENDS on a smooth transition of presidential authority. If you are an elected Republican, and you are saying nothing, YOU are part of the problem.

Nebraska Law Civil Clinic

One’s time in a legislature body is truly rewarding when he or she can change a person’s life for the better. JSMc

This week the Civil Clinic's Clean Slate Project successfully assisted a client in setting aside two 20+ year old convictions that were limiting his access to employment opportunities. In each of these cases, the client had received a short jail sentence. Until recently, such convictions were not eligible to be set-aside. However, as the result of the passage of a legislative amendment introduced by State Senator John S. McCollister and supported by the Clean Slate Project last session, Nebraskans with convictions resulting in short jail sentences (1 year or less) are now eligible to seek the relief afforded through a criminal conviction set-aside.

Sen. John McCollister: "As our population slowly ages, a responsible but more expansive legal immigration policy would, in my opinion, be in the national interest. Aside from the demographic imperative to support legal immigration, immigration boosts the economy in the U.S. and Nebraska."

What's your take?

It’s ironic to see many in the “America-first” crowd calling to “stop the vote.” What?

Voting is the most FOUNDATIONAL part of America. We must count ALL the votes. 🇺🇸

11/05/2020

It is vital that ALL votes be counted. Any calls to “stop the vote” are anti-Democratic.

Count ALL the votes. 🗳

11/03/2020

If you are a Republican, vote for Joe Biden today. It may feel STRANGE voting for a Democrat, but Donald Trump is undeserving of our vote.

Trump has TAKEN OVER the Republican Party. Today's GOP is run by conspiracy theorists and criminals.

If we want to REMAKE the GOP, we first must kick out all of the bad actors. We are the party of Lincoln, we are the party of Eisenhower, we are NOT the party of Donald Trump.

Vote for Joe Biden.

In my home district of Omaha NE, I’m supporting Democrat Kara Eastman in the Congressional race. She’s running against a FERVENT Trump-supporter named Don Bacon.

Bacon's entire election strategy is calling Kara "radical" and "dangerous" & other Joseph McCarthy combinations. He calls her names and regularly misrepresents her views.

Kara is in no way "radical." In every other era, she would just be called a "Democrat." Unfortunately, the GOP has moved SO far to the right that any leftward push brings calls of "SOCIALISM" from crazies.

Don't fall for it moderate voters. Kara is a good, honest candidate and if we want to be rid of Trump, we must vote out the people who've enabled his agenda these last 4 years.

A Democrat of any stripe is better than a Trump rubber stamp in this election.

Vote for Kara Eastman.
