Absolutely tragic!!!

UPDATE: Daniel E. Conklin was located deceased on August 3, 2026. His cause of death will be determined by a medical examiner. The New York State Police extend their sincere condolences to Mr. Conklin's family and loved ones during this difficult time. Conklin was last seen by family members on July 14, 2026. He was last observed walking along State Highway 205 not far from the Mirabito in Laurens.

Looked at the temps for the following week.. jaw kinda dropped a little even after that quick warm spell it seems father Winter isn’t done playing the Lottery just yet..

Our main way to help is to help keep The Warming Center stocked with food provisions and perhaps a few extra blankets-socks- and Hat-glove combos.
Code Blue Oneonta is looking into providing extra assistance (details to follow)!

For now- the use of the Library- 242 Main st are available warm stations during the day as the temperatures barely break out of the mid 30’s it is important we remind ourselves these temperatures can still be deadly to our unprepared neighbors.

I want to say say thank you to the UU church for our pop-up shelter yesterday while the temperature was cold; I do know that the temperatures haven’t really changed and are still cold but without proper supervision and volunteer assistance it is hard to continuously have some of the spaces available. At the moment the library and 242 Main St. are the more adequate places if in doubt it is cold.; now it is also possible with respect and courtesy to the church and the church members they are allowing throughout the day until 3-4pm people to go into the first United Methodist Church and hang out in the fellowship hall and with the use of the bathroom in the hall way .. the people who are working at the church the downstairs is off-limits - as well as the sanctuary, and the Embry room where the couches are are off-limits as well. There may be some coffee downstairs if you ask nicely, but we will not be able to provide continuous food and coffee and hot chocolate provisions without the extra and added quality assistance by verified volunteers. So please if you feel the need to be a verified and qualified volunteer to help assist please get in contact with my mom. (607)4342435 Angela who can vet you process you and give you the 411 on how we do and what we do throughout cold blue refuge. If you feel the need to assist or know somebody who can I would say direct them there so that we can still while the weather is bad provide support for our friends are unhoused.THANK YOU SO MUCH TO THOSE WHO CONTRIBUTE A GREAT DEAL ALREADY!
