In the very early morning hours of 1/3/2025 a report was made through 911 of an attempted car break-in in the Windsock Village Community in West Ossipee. When the Officer responded, the suspect(s) had left the area and were not located. There was no damage to the vehicle, and there does not appear to have been anything stolen, and it is believed that the assailant(s) were spooked by the car alarm and fled. The homeowner did not see the individuals and was unable to provide any further information. At this time, this is the only incident like this reported to have occurred last night.

It is unfortunately the time of year where reports of thefts from motor vehicles spike, due to a variety of reasons. The Ossipee Police Department encourages everyone to lock unattended vehicles, and to not leave any valuables inside the car in plain view. We also recommend leaving a light on outside your residence after dark, as it can be a deterrent to would-be thieves and trespassers.

Anyone with any information as to this morning's incident are encouraged to contact Officer Carrie Blackwood at 603-539-2011 or through email at [email protected].

Around town last night, you may have noticed a few more blue lights than usual!

That's because while all of you were enjoying your New Year's Eve celebrations, every single one of our Officers were out on the road, enforcing traffic laws and keeping the community safe.

Starting at 5pm last night and concluding after the celebrations were over, 40 motor vehicle stops were made for an array of traffic violations all over town, in addition to handling our regular calls for service.

Thank you for enjoying your celebrations safely and being courteous to our Officers when they stopped you to talk about your driving. Here's to a safe and kind 2025!

PRESS RELEASE
AUTHORITY OF DONALD F. BABBIN, CHIEF OF POLICE

On 12/30/2024 at approximately 6:05am, Sergeant Joseph Oswalt of the Ossipee Police Department was patrolling on Route 16 when he observed a vehicle traveling southbound at 70mph in a posted 40mph zone. Sergeant Oswalt initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle, a metallic-colored Mini Cooper 2-door coupe with a Maine registration plate, which refused to stop and continued traveling southbound. The vehicle passed several vehicles illegally in an attempt to evade the stop. Sergeant Oswalt advised Carroll County Sheriff's Office Dispatch of the refusal to stop and that he was engaging in a pursuit.

The suspect vehicle continued southbound on Route 16, passing more vehicles illegally and reaching speeds of 100mph. Officer Martino and Officer McLain from the Wakefield Police Department responded to assist. Stop sticks were deployed in Wakefield in the area of White Mountain Medical Center but were evaded by the operator, and the vehicle continued southbound. Strafford County was notified of the southbound pursuit and Milton Police Department responded with stop sticks to Route 16 just south of the Milton/Wakefield town line.

The Mini Cooper evaded the stop sticks deployed by Milton Police, however, the vehicle then lost control and left the roadway, crashing into the wood line. The two occupants of the vehicle then fled the crash on foot.

Sergeant Oswalt located the passenger of the vehicle shortly after the crash, however the operator was not immediately located. New Hampshire State Police deployed a K-9 Unit, but the track was unsuccessful in locating the operator.

The driver was later identified, and charges are pending. Due to both the operator and the passenger of the Mini Cooper being juveniles, our office is withholding their names at this time.

Special thanks to Carroll County Sheriff's Office Dispatch, Wakefield Police Department, New Hampshire State Police - Troop A Barracks, Augusta, ME Police Department, and Milton Fire/Rescue for their assistance on scene and during the post-crash investigation.

Anyone with any information regarding this incident is encouraged to reach out to Sergeant Joseph Oswalt of the Ossipee Police Department at 603-539-2011 or by email at [email protected]

I think we're all ready for a fresh start, am I right??

Don't create problems that will follow you into 2025 and ruin all those vibes. Plan ahead for your celebrations tonight. Drink responsibly and have a sober driver. Those two things alone will dramatically decrease your chances of one of our Officers needing to give you a court date for next year.

Be safe, be smart, and have a very Happy New Year.

Good morning, Ossipee!

Last week's extra cold weather led to Ossipee Lake finally having a covering of ice on Deer Cove (pictured) and many of the bays on our side of the lake.

However, the warmer temperatures this weekend, as well as the potential for rain can compromise the integrity of the ice, as on large bodies of water like Ossipee Lake, ice takes longer to form.

Please use caution if you're looking to break out the ice fishing gear you got for Christmas. Check the ice thickness often, and don't leave kids or pets unattended. Please be mindful that ice conditions can change by the day. It's still very early in the winter season, and we would like to avoid any ice-related tragedies.

Merry Christmas to us... we have a projected move-in date for OUR NEW POLICE STATION! 🥳

The contractors tell us we will be able to move in the first week of January, and we couldn't be more excited to say goodbye to 2024 and hello to 2025 and this brand new chapter!

As you can see, things are coming along quite well. Jen's service window for the lobby is installed, with one-way glass for her safety and records privacy. The floors are show-stopping, and with the trim and doors on, this place is really starting to look like home.

Contractors still have some fine tuning to do.... finishing the duct work into the drop ceilings, final coat of paint on walls and trim, and we, of course, will have furniture get in from the garage and general settling in to do.

Stay tuned, Ossipee, because we can't wait to invite you in to our new space!

On 12/21/2024 at 7:30am a caller reported to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center that a female subject pulled into the parking lot of the First Congregational Church of Ossipee at 50 Route 16B in a vehicle the caller believed was stolen. The caller stated that the female turned the vehicle off and was unable to restart it, and that the female told the caller that she didn’t have a key to the vehicle. The caller provided a license plate number to CCSO Dispatch, and they were able to confirm that the vehicle was reported stolen a short time earlier from the parking lot of Memorial Hospital in Conway, NH.

Officer Carrie Blackwood of the Ossipee Police Department and Sergeant Timothy Thompson of the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area. The operator, Brandy Smith, a 40-year-old female out of Conway, NH was taken into custody by Officer Blackwood for a single count of Receiving Stolen Property (Class A Felony) and Operating After Revocation or Suspension, subsequent offense (Class A Misdemeanor) without incident.

Ms. Smith was transported to the Carroll County Jail where she was held on $1000 cash bail, with an arraignment date of 12/23/2024 in the Ossipee District Court. Further charges from Conway Police Department are forthcoming.

The vehicle, a 2011 Toyota Camry, was undamaged and returned to the registered owner following Ms. Smith’s arrest.

The Ossipee Police Department would like to remind citizens to secure vehicles that are left unattended, particularly if they are left unattended with the engine running to warm up during these colder temperatures.

Hats and gloves and mittens, oh my!

Just in time for the deep freeze 🥶 scheduled to hit for the weekend!

We asked, and you all answered in spades, for our ⭐️ 1st Annual Spread the Warmth Winter Clothing Drive! ⭐️

We are buried in hats, gloves, mittens, scarves, thick warm socks and a few pair of Spiderman boot-style slippers (only kids sizes... sorry grown-up Marvel fans!) to start dispersing to the community. We've been in touch with Ossipee Central School and will be dropping off a big bag of warmth for them today to distribute to their kids that need it in time for the holiday break. 🎄❄😀

Warming bags have been made for each patrol car, that include hats/gloves/mittens in an array of sizes, and hand and foot warmer shoe and glove inserts, which combined with the blankets our officers already keep in their vehicles, should prepare them to help anyone who needs a little warmth this winter.

At this time, we are SUSPENDING the clothing drive with our thanks. We have enough donations to outfit the vehicles several times over. With the upcoming move to the new building, we've hit the limit of what we can store this year.

Thank you, Ossipee! You did a fantastic job helping us Spread the Warmth this winter season!

PS: If you, or someone you know is in need of any of these items, please have them reach out to our office so that we can give them what they need, no questions asked. Everyone, regardless of their circumstances, deserves to be warm this winter.

So often teenagers get a bad rap, so we thought we'd share three teenagers doing something good!

Lilly (16yo), Charlie (15yo) and Cameron (14yo) came calling at the PD early this morning on their way to school to make a delivery of coffee and donuts to our Officers and staff.

Yes, yes, we know... insert donut-eating cop jokes here.... 😂

When asked what the occasion was for the donation, we were told "It's the holidays!" Charlie added that it was something he used to do with his mom, and he wanted to carry on the tradition.

It's frigidly cold out there this morning, and we've got Officers out and about that we know will be happy to have a hot coffee and a tasty treat to come in and warm up to.

Lilly, Charlie and Cameron, thank you so much for thinking of us. Parents of this wholesome trio, thanks for raising caring, generous kiddos.

Happy Friday, Ossipee. Be kind, and stay warm!

It's been nearly 3 months since Carol Gemmiti went missing. There will be an empty chair at her family's dinner table this Christmas, and with it the heartbreak of not knowing what's happened to her, or where she might be.

Her husband, Donald, sent us this flyer and asked that we share it. He has increased the reward for information that leads to locating her to $5000.00 in hopes that anyone that knows anything might come forward.

Any information should be called in to the Ossipee Police Department at 603-539-2011.

How about those temperatures this morning?!?!? 🥶 Officer Blackwood recorded the coldest temperature yet this season in town, with 2°F on Granite Road at 6:30am.

It's a good thing the donations have started to come in for the Spread the Warmth Winter Clothing Drive!

Four lovely townsfolk dropped off hats and gloves on Friday, and we are so thankful! Keep the donations coming! We have cruisers to stock and people to outfit! Let's SPREAD THE WARMTH this winter!

Donations of hats and gloves/mittens of any size can be dropped off at the Ossipee Police Department at 7 Dore Street, Center Ossipee, from 8:00am-4:00pm Monday-Friday.
