Be honest, how many times today have you said “IT’S SO NICE OUT!”? Just like the warm weather has you out and about, same goes for black bears as they sniff around for snacks. Follow these simple steps to remove food sources and make your yard less attractive to bears.
🔸Take down your bird feeders. Birdfeeders are full of calorie-rich seeds that bears love to eat.
🔸Secure your trash in closed containers in a garage or outbuilding. Don’t leave your trash out at the curb overnight where bears can find it.
🔸Compost responsibly. Don’t throw meat scraps, greasy, oily or sweet materials in your compost pile. These kinds of food attract bears and other animals.

Share these tips with your neighbors! These efforts are even more powerful when neighbors work together. Learn more at mass.gov/news/take-precautions-black-bears-are-active-and-searching-for-food

This week, we recognize and celebrate National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week and we want to take a moment to thank the voices behind the scenes who make such a critical difference every single day.

Our dispatchers Berkshire RECC are the calm in the chaos. They are the first point of contact in emergencies, the steady voice guiding callers through difficult moments, and the lifeline connecting our officers, fire, and EMS personnel in the field. Their ability to remain composed, compassionate, and focused under pressure is nothing short of remarkable.

While they may not always be seen, their impact is felt in every call for service and every life they help protect.

On behalf of the Otis Police Department, thank you for your dedication, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to keeping our community safe.

We appreciate you today and every day. 💙
