Hello, everyone. The Munsee Tribe in Kansas is looking to borrow an older model MacBook to read and download information from a floppy disc. Efforts to try and access the floppy disc via an external reader have so far proved unsuccessful. The disc is currently held in the archive of Ottawa University, and the archivists there have also been unable to access the information on it.

We have evidence to believe the disc contains important information on and additional items within a collection related to The Munsee Tribe in Kansas. If you have a device we would be able to borrow, or additional suggestions on where we could find an older, compatible model, please leave a comment, message us here on Facebook, or email [email protected]. Thank you!

Hi there. The Munsee Tribe in Kansas is trying to locate records for what was once the store or trading post in the Chippewa Hills area in Franklin County, KS. (probably between 1859 to 1950's or so). We're not sure on the date, that's why we extended the time frame.

It would have been on Labette Road in Lincoln Township, about 5-7 miles west on Greenwood Road/Labette Road from Ottawa.

We're looking for documents, ledgers, journals, receipts, photos of the store or trading post, and any other information that someone might have.

If you have any information, please message let us know.

Thank you!

The document included in this post is the Treaty of Fort Pitt (1778), and was signed by Gelelemend, also known as John Kilbuck Jr. and baptized as William Henry Sr. If you zoom in to the bottom right of this document, you will see his "mark" where he signed the document, alongside fellow council members White Eyes and Captain Pipe. This document will be included in the Kilbuck presentation if you are interested in learning more!

Investigations into the abuses to American Indian children have brought new scrutiny to the boarding school system. This talk examines the thinking behind the creation of federal schools for youth including Haskell Indian Nations University, originally known as the United States Indian Industrial Training School, and how this system affected Native communities in the short and long term. The American Indian story is one of cultural survival, but what are the next steps for reckoning with this difficult and painful part of our national history? (Provided by Humanities Kansas)
