Take Back Day locations cannot accept used sharps—such as needles, syringes, or lancets—so it’s vital for anyone using injectable medications at home to practice proper, safe disposal… ⬇️

🔔 Important Guidelines for Sharps Safety:
- Place all used sharps into a heavy-duty, plastic container.
- Never flush loose sharps or toss them directly into the trash.
- Dispose of the sealed container in your regular household garbage, but do not place it in recycling.

At a time when our disability community faces growing challenges at the federal level, it’s more important than ever to advocate on behalf of our neighbors and friends of all abilities. Being different is not a limitation—it is a source of strength.

That’s why I’m so proud of the strong partnership from local advocates and community members this year that helped pave the way for a series of real change for real people here in our community.

I’m especially grateful to neighbor, mom and advocate, Courtney, who allowed us to share this video on what Sami’s Law means for her amazing son, Theo, and entire family.

Work to wash the Illinois 251 bridge crossing the Illinois River south of Peru will begin Monday, Oct. 19.

🚧There will be daytime lane closures controlled by flaggers during the project, which is anticipated to be completed in November.

🚘Drivers! Please expect delays and allow extra time for trips through this area and be prepared for slow and stopped traffic.

Please be sure to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices, and be alert for workers and equipment.

College becomes more affordable and accessible for young adults when schools take an active, hands-on role in guiding students through the financial aid process.

That’s why last year, I voted to pass House Bills 3096 and 3097, now law, ensuring every Illinois high school has a FAFSA point of contact available for students to seek support during their school day.

🔨 NEW CONSTRUCTION ANNOUNCEMENT

A multiyear project on U.S. 6/Illinois 71 (Norris Drive) in Ottawa will begin Monday, Oct. 5. The work zone will be from Champlain Street to the U.S. 6/Illinois 71 split south of Interstate 80.

The project’s initial phase will target Norris Drive from east of the Fox River to the U.S. 6/Illinois 71 split.

🚨Drivers! One lane will be open in each direction during this phase. Please pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zone areas, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
