Do you remember the incredible presentation by LOFT at the April 11th board meeting? In case you missed it, our special needs students will be traveling to Port Austin for a 3-night independence building class trip. They will be practicing life skills such as preparing all meals, maintaining the cleanliness of their home, and partaking in social activities. 🍽️

LOFT is an adult transition program that teaches special education students a variety of life skills that build self-confidence and help students become productive and independent. Headed by the passionate and devoted Ms. DiCicco, these students contribute to our community in wonderful ways such as the annual pie fundraiser pictured. 🥧

We just learned that LOFT came up a little short in their fundraising goal to make this trip happen. Here’s how WE can help!! 💪

1. Pop bottles can be donated towards their fundraising.

2. Donation checks can be mailed to Jeanne DiCicco c/o Oxford High School, 745 N. Oxford Rd., Oxford, MI 48371.

3. Venmo me at -McDonough-19 (last 4 digits 8956) and I will write a check on behalf of the community, separate of my personal donation.

ANY amount is appreciated, it all adds up! 💰

The next BOE meeting will be this Tuesday, April 11th. See below for agenda link.

As a friendly reminder, community members have two opportunities to address the Board. If you wish to speak during “scheduled public comment” towards the beginning of the meeting, you must send an email to Dr. Markavitch by 4:00pm on Monday. This comment period is reserved for items relating to the current agenda. For example, if you have questions or comments relating to the Honor Health Clinic, Guidepost investigation, or policies scheduled to be approved, you may now address the Board before the presentations and vote.

The second opportunity towards the end of the meeting, “unscheduled public comment,” remains unchanged. Any community member may raise questions or comments pertaining to any topic, even if they have already spoken at the beginning of the meeting.

This Sunday, November 20th, I will be at Evergreen’s in Oxford from 10am-2pm. I would love to chat with you!

As a new board member, I am very interested in hearing from our community as to your top concerns and issues. What are some things that you would like me to know? What are some things that you would like more attention paid to? What do you feel the district is doing well, and what are some things you would like to see improved upon?

If you are a student, teacher, staff member, parent, or community resident, I want to hear your thoughts. It is my turn now, and for the next 4 years, to listen. What do you feel is important for me to know?

If you cannot make it Sunday, but still wish to talk, I am always happy to make other arrangements, chat over Messenger, phone, or email.

Thank you for entrusting me to serve this district - I am both humbled by your support and eager to contribute to the successful future of OCS. I know that this decision was not made lightly, and I can assure you that I will put forth the most honest, logical, and genuine effort to represent you.

This past year I have been able to meet and come together with parents, students, and teachers across the district. I have heard many perspectives, listened to many challenges our families are facing, and also have seen the profound goodness within Oxford. These interactions fuel my determination to work towards a collaborative approach within our district and community. I very much look forward to working with all of you over the next four years.

I want to congratulate and say that I am honored to serve alongside Mike, James, and Mary.

I want to also extend my gratitude to the other candidates, as their desire to add value and serve our community is commendable. I have no doubt that their passion for this community will continue to be shown.

I will continue to make myself available to any parent, teacher, or student that would like to discuss their challenges or desired changes for the future. Stay tuned for a coffee shop meetup in the next couple weeks. And again, thank you all for the incredible support! 💙💛

It has been a pleasure speaking with and getting to know many community members! I hope to see many familiar and new faces at our next meet and greet. I would love to hear your opinions on the issues you feel new board members should address. What have current board members done well, and what do you think could be improved upon?
