Geoff Henry has installed the rain barrel he obtained from the Borough as a result of his participation in a rain barrel workshop. Geoff reports that our last good rain produced 55 gallons of water! You too can be the proud owner of a rain barrel. Our final class for the spring will be held on Saturday, April 9th at 10:00 on Zoom.

Stormwater collected in rain barrels can be repurposed to water gardens and plants and in other ways around your property. This reduces the amount of fresh potable water used, resulting in lower water and sewer bills and less stormwater that ends up in our streams and watersheds.

If you're interested in obtaining a barrel to conserve water, help clean up our streams, and save money, please email Kathryn Cloyd at [email protected]. The only requirement is that you live in the Borough. We hope to hear from you!

This opportunity is made possible by a generous grant from the E. Kneale Dockstader Foundation.

What is a Remembrance Walk?

With guidance from the American Legion and input from our Purple Heart Award recipient, we are pivoting the event this year to include a Remembrance Walk and Ceremony. One aspect that was discussed was the desire to educate the community about the difference between Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Memorial Day is a day to honor the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. This year, we will honor all fallen heroes with a silent Remembrance Walk to the Oxford Cemetery, where the American Legion will hold its annual Memorial Day Ceremony.

The Oxford Area High School Band and Penns Grove Band will accompany walkers from the Oxford Memorial to the Oxford Cemetery. Walking groups and all members of the community are invited to "Walk With Us" as we honor those that gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

Looking for a way to save money on your water and sewer bills and improve the environment?

Stormwater collected in rain barrels can be repurposed to water gardens and plants and in other ways around your property. This reduces the amount fresh potable water used, resulting in lower water and sewer bills and less stormwater that ends up in our streams and watersheds.

Last fall, the Borough advertised the availability of rain barrels free of charge to Oxford Borough residents who complete a workshop. We held our first class on Saturday morning, and distributed the barrels following the class. We will hold another workshop this Saturday, April 2nd at 10:00 at Borough Hall, 1 Octoraro Alley, Oxford. We have room for 15 more people in that class, and enough rain barrels for the class as well.

If you're interested in obtaining a barrel to conserve water, help clean up our streams, and save money, please email Kathryn Cloyd at [email protected]. Space will be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. There will also be a Zoom option in the near future, so if you're not able to attend this Saturday, we could still put your name on the Zoom list. The only requirement is that you live in the Borough. We hope to hear from you!

This opportunity is made possible by a generous grant from the E. Kneale Dockstader Foundation.
