The Lake County Juvenile Court has exclusive jurisdiction concerning any person under eighteen years old who is alleged to be a juvenile traffic offender, delinquent, unruly, abused, neglected, or dependent. The Juvenile Court also has jurisdiction in adult cases involving paternity, custody, child abuse, non-support, contributing to the delinquency of minors, and failure to send children to school.

Until further notice, the Lake County Court of Common Pleas – Juvenile Division will be operating OPEN WITH RESTRICTIONS. Only essential judicial, court and clerk personnel shall be on duty in the courthouse, including sufficient security officers. If the judge or magistrate assigned to a case determines that a trial, hearing or other proceeding is necessary to be held at that time, only the litigants, their attorneys, and any witnesses and jurors, and limited media if requested, permitted entry, and no other persons will be permitted entry. Any such persons to be admitted may be subject to health screening or testing, if testing is available, and exclusion from admission based upon the results of such screening or testing.

Earlier this fall, in what has become an annual event, Lake County Juvenile Court Administrator Chris Simon (St. Ignatius Class of '89) and Lake County Job & Family Services Director Matt Battiato (St. Edward Class of '74) renewed their friendly wager over the St. Ignatius-St. Edward football game. St. Edward prevailed 7-3 which resulted in Mr. Simon having to wear a St. Edward tie for a week at work!

On Wednesday November 21st, Judge Karen Lawson and staff at Lake County Juvenile Court hosted its 10th Annual Day of Giving. This year's local charity was the Alexander K. DelaMotte Scholarship Fund. The scholarship is awarded yearly to a Junior or Senior studying Fine Arts at Lake Erie College. This year's event raised over $3,400 for the scholarship. Thanks to everyone who attended and who helped make this the most successful event ever! Happy holidays!

Lake County Juvenile Court is mourning the loss of Judge William W. Weaver. Judge Weaver served Lake County as juvenile judge from 1991 until he retired in 2008. May he rest in peace.

Former Lake County Juvenile Court Judge William W. Weaver is being remembered as a pro-active jurist with strong ties to community, church and family.

In what has become an annual event, Lake County Juvenile Court Administrator Chris Simon (St. Ignatius Class of '89) and Lake County Job & Family Services Director Matt Battiato (St. Edward Class of '74) renewed their friendly wager this past weekend over the St. Ignatius-St. Edward football game. The Lake County Juvenile Court's Alternative School received the 2017 J. Thomas Mullen Award yesterday at a ceremony during the winter conference of the Ohio Association of Juvenile Court Judges. The award is given annually to a program recognizing outstanding contributions of a community organization by the Ohio Department of Youth Services. A Lake County youth who successfully completed the program was also recognized at the ceremony.

Judge Lawson and the staff at Lake County Juvenile Court held their annual Holiday Fundraiser today. A Chinese raffle, 50/50 drawing and bake sale helped raise funds for the Miracle League of Lake County. A total of $2,000 was raised today and Director of Administration, Chris Simon, was proud to present the check to Judy Moran (Miracle League Board of Directors President) and Dennis Morley (Mayor of the City of Eastlake). The Juvenile Court has had its Gardening Program since 2009 and the garden has won previous awards. Judge Karen Lawson and staff from Juvenile Court were visited by Matt Battiato and Lori O'Brien from the Lake County Department of Job & Family Services to pick up presents for children in their Secret Santa program. Juvenile Court was able to raise money during their annual Thanksgiving fundraiser to purchase gifts to fill the Christmas wishlists of two children this year. This year NDCL junior, Hannah Simon, performed some of her service hours by helping shop, wrap and even making a blanket for one of the children! Thank you to everyone who participated in this year's annual fundraiser at the Juvenile Court and thank you to the Department of Job & Family Services for helping kids feel a little better during the holidays.

Ohio Court Professionals Complete Executive Training Program

Anthony Goff, Lake County Juvenile Court Chief Probation Officer, graduated from the Supreme Court of Ohio's Court Management Program this month. Offered through a partnership between the Ohio Supreme Court’s Judicial College and the National Center for State Courts’ Institute for Court Management since 2002, the Court Management Program addresses specific training needs of court leaders. Each court professional attained the credential by completing a three-year program of courses, including the purposes and responsibilities of courts, caseflow management, and court performance standards. Congratulations, Anthony!

With 30 more court professionals achieving national certification this week, Ohio now employs more than 300 Certified Court Managers working in courts statewide.

Over 100 guests stopped by to help us raise $2,200 for the Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital Child Advocacy and Protection Team. On February 25th, Dr. Robert Anda delivered his presentation, Adverse Childhood Experiences: Building Self-Healing Communities to approximately 350 audience members at the Radisson Hotel in Eastlake, Ohio. The event which was sponsored by the many members of the Lake County Family & Children First Council, including Juvenile Court, helped to educate everyone on the harmful effects of trauma on the developing brain and described how many public health issues could be prevented if these traumas could be reduced. After Dr. Anda's presentation, Judge Karen Lawson was a member of a panel of local experts on juvenile issues that discussed this information. This was a very informative morning for everyone who was present.

Two Ohio Courts Awarded Federal Violence Against Women Grants

Congratulations to Judge Cicconetti and the Painesville Municipal Court on receiving this federal grant to help victims of domestic violence.

Two Ohio courts received federal grants that will enhance their domestic violence services. Painesville Municipal Court and Mahoning County Domestic Relations Court received nearly $100,000 in total funds from the S.T.O.P. Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) Formula Grant Program.
