We were proud to support their Celebrity Art Auction event yesterday, helping them to raise funds for the Friends of Lake ADAMHS (FOLA)! Sadly, over 70% of children and adolescents who grow up with DV abuse are likely to become future offenders!!! Our family counseling programs work to stop the Cycle of Abuse!

Thank you again for your generous support of our agency and programs!!!!

Special thanks to the Lake County ADAMHS Board and the Lake County Family First Council for bringing Dr. Robert Anda, M.D., M.S. to Lake County to speak on "The Progressive Nature of Adverse Childhood Experiences". Dr. Anda provided many sobering facts and made an effective case for the need for more care and support devoted to recognition and care serving youth who have been exposed to childhood trauma; the importance of effective parenting; and the need to build self-healing communities that will help reduce the exposure of children to trauma over future generations! Lake County is blessed to have a great quality of care infrastructure, but we need to continue to adjust and improve. As Dr. Anda quoted, " we need to create a different path for the future...with hope, meaning and purpose"

The staff and Board of Trustees of WRCS thanks ALL Veterans who have served our country. It can be confusing to say 'Happy Veteran's Day', given the many who gave their lives, or forever had their life changed due to physical and emotional injuries! But let's also remember that there are many other victims, including family members, friends, coworkers, etc who mourn their loss!

This picture speaks volumes to the truth of this special day. WRCS offers counseling to support PTSD and all forms of grief! Call us at (440) 352-8954 if we can ever be of service!

According to WebMD, new data suggests even more reason to care for your children's emotional and behavioral health needs during their child and adolescent years! Call 440-352-8954 or email us at [email protected] if you have any questions on our agency's counseling approach to caring for your family members.

"The most striking and perhaps sobering finding in our study is that high levels of childhood distress predicted heightened adult disease risk, even when there was no evidence that these high levels of distress persisted into adulthood," said study author Ashley Winning, a postdoctoral research fellow in the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in Boston.

"Greater attention must be paid to psychological distress in childhood," Winning said. "It is an important issue in its own right and may also set up a trajectory of risk of poor health as people age."

Our agency is fortunate to have an excellent staff of administrative and professional counseling resources who support our mission to improve the lives of others. Going well above and beyond her support of Western Reserve Counseling Service, Karen Szmania is also one of the many Ymca Dream House! volunteers who take their personal time to design and decorate the various rooms in the Dream House. Karen's creativeness, decorating design experience and understanding of form/function contribute to the success she had with this year's home, as she was the lead designer for their dining room. Good luck to the lake County YMCA for a positive fund raising result with the Dream House.
