Lake County Breastfeeding Coalition

Lake County Breastfeeding Coalition Lake County Breastfeeding Coalition is a resource to support more families to breastfeed their children. Beginning in 2013, the Lake County Breastfeeding Coalition began as a small group discussing and brainstorming the needs of breastfeeding support, promotion and protection throughout Lake County, Ohio.

The Coalition held its first meeting in January of 2013. The collaborative began to bridge the communication gaps between Lake Health Hospital System and Community Agencies to encourage strategic thinking and planning on ways multiple agencies could begin to decrease barriers to support breastfeeding throughout the county. Our Vision: We envision Lake County residents to recognize breastfeeding as the superior, natural and normal method of feeding infants and young children. Our Mission: It is the mission of the Lake County Breastfeeding Coalition to improve our county’s health by creating a diverse group to empower women to make the healthiest choices for themselves and their babies, making breastfeeding a priority. Our Accomplishments: • Developed breastfeeding coalition strategic plan • Developed a breastfeeding resource list for the county identifying what currently exists to support and promote breastfeeding • Developed marketing campaign to promote and identify employers supporting breastfeeding and/or milk expression during work hours • Completed assessment to physician offices to determine breastfeeding needs • Coordinated and planned first Lake County Breastfeeding Symposium Our Partners: Lake Health Lake County General Health District Crossroads Family Planning GRADS Lake County WIC 2016 Focus: In alignment with the Lake County Community Health Improvement Plan, our focus is to initiate formalized breastfeeding policies for employers throughout Lake County

We can't say it enough: human milk is VITAL to preterm babies in the NICU. If mothers are having trouble providing their own milk (or lack the necessary support), these fragile babies NEED donor human milk.

Shout out to our Presenting Sponsor Moby® Wrap for making this series possible. Can't forget our nonprofit partners (NEC Society, United States Lactation Consultant Association, Human Milk Banking Association of North America (HMBANA), La Leche League USA, and Breastfeeding Committee for Canada - Baby Friendly Initiative) and our media partner,
