Jimmy Dutra - Candidate for Santa Cruz County 4th District Supervisor Jimmy Dutra is a Watsonville City Councilmember. Jimmy Dutra was born and raised in Watsonville, California. Hall Middle School and Watsonville High School.

He attended local schools, including Salesian Sisters, E.A. Jimmy attended Santa Clara University and earned his bachelor's degree in Political Science and received his Masters in Executive Leadership at the University of Southern California’s Sol Price School of Public Policy. While in college, he was a White House Intern in Washington D.C. After graduation, he worked on a gubernatorial and senat

e campaign. Eventually, he wanted to explore one of his dreams of working in Hollywood. Over the span of 7 years, he worked for a talent agency, Paramount Pictures, Nickelodeon Films, and Paramount Classics. While in Hollywood, he became a homeowner and really enjoyed the process. So, in 2005 he obtained his real estate license and practiced real estate for several years. After many years living in Los Angeles, Jimmy decided in 2010 to move back home to Watsonville. He opened a pumpkin patch, Jimmy’s Pumpkins. Jimmy was known for working with our local schools and teachers by donating a portion of his proceeds and pumpkins. As a teacher, union member and now lead teacher for the after-school program in the Pajaro Valley Unified School District, Jimmy has always been a huge advocate for his colleagues and students. In 2014, Jimmy was elected to the Watsonville City Council for a 4-year term. He was elected for a second term in 2020 and was Watsonville’s mayor in 2021. He has deep roots in his community and works tirelessly for the people he was elected to represent. In addition to being Watsonville’s Mayor and City Council Member, Jimmy is a part of the following organizations, boards and commissions:

- Pajaro Valley Prevention and Student Assistance, Board President
- Community Action Board, Board Member
- The Diversity Center, Board Member

Jimmy is focused on making his community a better place to live. His priorities are working to end homelessness, fixing the aging infrastructure, addressing the serious housing needs, promoting our local businesses, creating jobs for our community and bridging our differences. He believes by working together communities will flourish.

I had the opportunity to tour the new property (Watsonville Slough Farms) that the Land Trust of Santa Cruz County acquired near Pajaro Valley High School. This land will be transformed into a community park, with trails, bbq pits and possibly a whole lot more. The students from PV High will also benefit from the proximity as well. The school district, city and land trust plan on making a pathway from the school to the park. They are in the planning stages of it now and want community input. Take a tour. BRIEF SANTA CRUZ COUNTY UPDATE

1. Mask ordinance starts tomorrow (Friday) at midnight. People not adhering to the rule will be cited.

2. New Leaf employees in Aptos have been confirmed to have contracted the virus. County wouldn’t confirm number (one journalist said it was at least 7). They will be closed shortly to deep clean, then re-open to the public because they are an essential business.

3. Santa Cruz and Orange County are basically the only counties in California to have re-opened their beaches back to the public.

4. 19 agriculture workers recently tested positive in Monterey county. They made it sound that because they live here year round that it may not be migrant workers who work in the field. However, we all know most migrant workers in the fields live here year round. It was a little deceptive. Kind of like when they said the first person to die at Watsonville Hospital was not from around here. Then he ended up being from Las Lomas (right over the bridge).

5. Hospitals and doctors will be allowed to do operations and procedures again. It was unclear, but I sensed dentists will be able to go back as well.

Thank you PVPSA and to our amazing military for helping pass out food to over 300 families. The line went from Pajaro Middle all the way back over the bridge to Riverside. Unfortunately, there was only one truck this week and people were turned away, however, next week there will be two to three trucks loaded with food and essentials (diapers). Thank you Community Action Board for making sure those in need are warm this winter. Tonight we made cards that will go with gift bags of warm clothes, blankets, socks, etc. They will be given out this holiday season to those in need. I am overjoyed with the love that so many in this community have for others ❤️⛄️. Proud to call Watsonville home.
