International Overdose Awareness Day 2026: 25 Years On. Still Needed.
Behind every statistic is a person — someone loved, someone valued. Behind every loss is a ripple felt by families, friends, and entire communities.
But "Still Needed" is also a message of hope: overdose is preventable. We know what works — timely access to care, education, and life-saving interventions save lives. The challenge now is making sure these solutions are seen, shared, and embraced everywhere.
This year's theme honors 25 years of dedication from those who've carried this work forward, and invites all of us — across cultures, professions, and communities — to keep learning, speak openly, and act with compassion and evidence.
Because while this day is still needed, it doesn't have to be forever. Together, we can build a future with fewer lives lost, support within reach for everyone, and a world where this day of remembrance is no longer necessary.
Until then: we remember. We act. We continue — together.
Join us this IOAD as we work toward a world without overdose. 💙
