Hardinsburg Teen Charged as Adult In Lawrence County IN
According to the WBIW article, On January 13, 2026, prosecutors officially charged 17-year-old Elijah D. York of Hardinsburg as an adult following a shooting at a Speedway gas station in Bedford, Indiana.
The incident occurred around 9:46 p.m. on Monday, January 5, at the Speedway located at State Road 37 and US 50 West. Following a verbal dispute, York allegedly opened fire from an SUV at two individuals.
Bullets struck the victims' vehicle and nearby gas pumps. Despite the gunfire, no injuries were reported.
York was originally held in a juvenile facility but is now facing adult charges of:
• Attempted Murder
• Obstruction of Justice
• Possession of a Firearm by a Dangerous Person
His co-defendant, 18-year-old Talon Briem of Orleans, was arrested shortly after the shooting and faces charges of attempted murder, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, and pointing a loaded firearm.
The suspects were apprehended following a multi-agency investigation involving Lawrence and Orange County authorities. Police tracked the teens to residences in Hardinsburg and Orleans the morning after the shooting.
Lawrence County Sheriff Greg Day stated, “Although we are extremely fortunate that no one was shot or harmed, this is an example of senseless violence when members of society lose the basic regard for the sanctity of human life, we need to find ways to resolve problems and disagreements without resorting to violence.”
