The Long Beach Public Library in New York was founded in 1928 and had its first site at 124 West Park Avenue. The original site has been declared a landmark by the Long Beach Historical Society just above the popular Sutton Place Bar and Grill. The first year the Library was open, more than 2000 people registered for library cards. Seven years later the Library needed a bigger space so it moved its location near the Long Island Railroad. Although the space was bigger, many patrons complained about the noise level so a new location was needed. The Long Beach Public Library moved to its current three floor building in 1954. In 1997, the Library underwent a major renovation.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ“š Rain couldnโ€™t stop Long Beach! ๐ŸŒง๏ธโค๏ธ

This past Monday, the Long Beach Public Library was proud to march in our cityโ€™s Memorial Day Parade alongside so many incredible community groups, neighbors, and organizations honoring those who served our country. Even though the weather literally rained on the parade, we were so happy to be there representing both the library and the Long Beach community we love so much.

As we celebrate Americaโ€™s 250th anniversary, moments like these remind us how special community traditions can be โ€” coming together, rain or shine. Thank you to everyone who waved, cheered, and supported us along the route!

We love being part of Long Beach, and we hope to see you at the library soon. ๐Ÿ“–๐ŸŒŠ

TONIGHT!
Join us for this monthโ€™s LGBTQ+ Cinema selection, Wild Nights With Emily โ€” a witty, bold, and refreshing reimagining of the life of legendary poet Emily Dickinson. Starring Molly Shannon, this acclaimed film explores Dickinsonโ€™s creative life, sharp humor, and passionate lifelong relationship with Susan Gilbert, challenging the long-held image of the poet as a lonely recluse.

Funny, moving, and informed by Dickinsonโ€™s own private letters, this unique film offers a new perspective on one of Americaโ€™s most iconic writers.
