JUNIOR PARENT/STUDENT COLLEGE/CAREER PLANNING PROGRAM

THURSDAY, MARCH 25TH, 6PM

This Thursday evening, the High School Counselors and Mrs. Sicola will be presenting a Junior Parent and Student Program for college and career planning. Information about college and post-secondary planning will be presented to guide you through the college application and post-secondary planning process. Parents and students are encouraged to join us at 6:00 PM when we will air our presentation video and then offer a Q&A session. You are welcome to watch the video ahead of time, and then join us at 6:30 for the Q&A.

All juniors and their parents and guardians were emailed the Webex link, the YouTube video, and the PowerPoint Presentation. All three are posted on the HS Guidance Department website. The video link is below.

~How to choose electives for next year (2021-2022) in On Course and the scheduling process
~An overview of the high school courses, and their prerequisites, programs, and academies
~Orientation information: credits, the freshman schedule, graduation course and test requirements, attendance requirements, athletic eligibility, and more!

Big Future Days College Fair
College Board is hosting their first-ever series of virtual college fairs called BigFuture™ Days. Sophomores and juniors can sign up for a chance to connect directly with college admissions representatives and current college students. They'll have a chance to explore colleges in a way that's not overwhelming, ask questions about topics they want to learn about, and take action on key college planning steps.

Attention students in grades 8-11. The high school counselors are scheduling students for next year via email and phone calls. Make sure to check your school email. The counselors are reaching out to discuss courses and electives for next year. We will be using Google Meet to audio call you also. Please be sure to answer calls that will not "Sayreville schools." Freshman Student Open House - Freshman Tip-off
Thursday, January 23rd 6-8:30 PM, SWMHS Auxiliary Gym A

Incoming freshman and their parents are invited to see what clubs and sports are offered at the high school. Students are invited to watch the boys' basketball game (free entrance with school ID) and enter to win Apple AirPods (free entries with school ID). AirPod winner will be announced at the basketball game. Parents can stop in at any time before or after the Parent Orientation.

AP Informational Session for Parents and Students
Thursday, January 23rd 6-7 PM, High school cafeteria

This session is for students interested in taking Advanced Placement courses in grades 10-12.

SWMHS offers Advanced Placement courses for students in grades 10-12. These courses typically have pre-requisites, which include honors level coursework, teacher recommendation and specific grades. The AP Informational Session will inform you of the AP courses offered at the high school, the course rigor and requirements. Students interested in taking AP courses are encouraged to attend this hour-long session with their parents.

This program is being held one AFTER the high school evening conferences. PSAT Score Reports are available online

All students that took the October 19th test should have already received an email from College Board with a link to their online score report. Students must have a College Board account to view their score report. If they do not have one yet, they may create one at: https://cbaccount.collegeboard.org/iamweb/smartRegister

The score report will include not only raw scores, but it will provide access to an analysis of the scores, right and wrong answers, and a study plan through Khan Academy.

PSAT/NMSQT Saturday, October 19, 2019

Juniors are encouraged to take the PSAT. Registration forms were distributed during all English 11 classes. Extra forms are available in the Guidance Office. The test is FREE for all juniors. Complete registration forms must be returned to the Guidance Office by October 7th. A PSAT practice book will be given to all registrants.

Interested sophomores can sign up for the test as well. Registration forms are available from any English 10 teacher and in the Counseling Office. The cost for sophomores is $20.00 and must be paid before or after school in the Guidance Office. ****Registration Deadline is October 7th.****
