🐾 This week we celebrated the ribbon cutting for our new dog park! A great joint effort between Parma and Parma Heights, giving our four legged family members a place of their own.

⚠️At an AQI of 279, this isn’t just a hazy day. It’s considered Very Unhealthy, which means everyone should take steps to reduce exposure.

A few tips for today:

* Stay indoors as much as possible and keep windows and doors closed.

* Run your air conditioner on recirculate if possible, or use an air purifier if you have one.

* Avoid outdoor exercise, yard work, or anything that causes you to breathe harder.

* If you must be outside, a well fitting N95 mask can help filter fine smoke particles.

* Keep pets indoors as much as possible.

* Drink plenty of water. Smoke can irritate and dry out your eyes, nose, and throat.

* If you’ve been outside, shower and change your clothes when you come in.

* Avoid burning candles, spraying aerosols, and vacuuming (unless your vacuum has a HEPA filter).A regular vacuum can stir fine particles back into the air. Damp dusting or mopping is a better choice today.

* If you have asthma, COPD, or heart disease, keep your medications nearby and pay close attention to any symptoms.

👵👴Please check on older neighbors, friends with young children, and anyone with breathing or heart conditions. Today’s air quality can affect even healthy adults.

A special thank you to the Parma Heights Police Department for keeping our community safe, especially at the intersections during the outage.

We have a lot to be grateful for tonight. Thank you to everyone who stepped up when our community needed it.

💡Parma Heights neighbors, if your power is out, FirstEnergy is working to restore service and has estimated it should be back on by midnight.

While we wait, here are a few reminders:
• Keep your refrigerator and freezer doors closed to help protect your food.
• Use flashlights instead of candles when possible.
• Charge your phones in your vehicle if needed.
• Check on neighbors, especially seniors or anyone who may need a little extra help.
• Remember, if traffic signals are out, intersections should be treated as four way stops.
• Please stay away from any downed power lines and report them right away.

I know these outages are frustrating, but one of the things I love about Parma Heights is how we look out for each other. Check on a neighbor, lend a hand if someone needs it, and hopefully we’ll all have our lights back soon!💜
