Atkinson Elementary - Pasadena ISD third graders made a big impact on conservation ๐๐ฆ
Through their partnership with the Houston Zoo, students supported wildlife conservation and the protection of bald eagles. This year, the campus โadoptedโ Sallie the bald eagle, helping create and sustain habitats where she and other species can thrive.
Students also took action on campus by reducing plastic waste. With two water refill stations, they prevented more than 9,000 plastic bottles from entering landfills this year alone. Since launching these efforts, Atkinson Elementary has kept more than 11,000 plastic items out of landfills and natural ecosystems.
Their hard work earned the Impact Houston 26 Sustainable School Badge and recognition at Rice University. Further congratulations to third-grade teacher Amber Watson and her students, who received a $750 grant to support this work. ๐
What an incredible, mission-driven opportunity for our students!
