It’s Hurricane Preparedness Month—stay safe both before and during your time at the coast 🌊

Memorial Day weekend often means time at the beach ☀️
If you’re heading to the coast, remember to practice rip current safety:

🚩 Check the local beach forecast and flag conditions before you go.

🏊 Know what to do if caught in a rip current: stay calm, don’t fight it, and swim parallel to the shore until you’re out of the current. Then signal for help.

👀 Always keep a close eye on children near the water.

If you plan to be on the water this holiday weekend, please practice extra caution. We are seeing potentially dangerous conditions due to low water levels in our waterways. This is impacting boat landing ramps—especially tidal ones, as trailers are having to go much further out/down to reach water.

As our joint-recruit school with Georgetown County Fire & EMS finishes week number 5, we were honored to hear a powerful presentation from Captain/EMT Chris Holmes. Captain Holmes shared the story of his brother, Bradley Holmes, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty on March 5, 2008, in Grove City, PA.

Captain Holmes’ passion for honoring his brother’s legacy and sharing the heroic efforts displayed that day left a lasting impact on everyone in attendance. His message served as a powerful reminder of the courage, sacrifice, and brotherhood that define the fire service and EMS profession.

Thank you, Captain Holmes, for your honesty, strength, and dedication to ensuring Bradley’s memory continues to inspire the next generation.
