Paxton has experienced a wild and busy week. We understand that many residents are still recovering from Tuesday's storm. We are collaborating with Town leadership and the DPW to clear tree debris and hazards on and over roadways, commencing next week. We ask for everyone's understanding as the crews take a much-needed respite heading into the holiday weekend. On a more uplifting note, let us wrap up the week. Last night, at approximately 8:30 pm, Wachusett Regional Emergency Communications Center received a call about a pet cat stuck in a tree on Holden Rd. Although cats often come down on their own or are out of reach, the chief, along with the on-duty group, Group 2, and Paxton MA Police Department, successfully assessed the situation and reunited the kitty with its owner. Due to this afternoon's storm, there are multiple trees and wires down across Paxton and surrounding communities, with several roadways currently blocked.

Police, Fire, DPW, and Light Department crews are actively working to respond to calls and clear impacted areas as quickly and safely as possible.

We ask residents to please stay home and avoid unnecessary travel to allow emergency and utility crews room to work safely.

Please use caution around downed wires and never approach them. Additional updates will be provided as needed.

πŸš’πŸ”₯ Community Fire Safety in Action πŸ”₯πŸš’
Today, firefighters from Group 3 proudly teamed up with Firefighter Ryan Plante to help educate our seniors about the importance of fire safety. It was a great opportunity to share life-saving knowledge, answer questions, and help ensure everyone feels prepared and protected at home.
πŸ‘΄πŸ‘΅ Why teaching fire safety to seniors matters:
Adults 65 and older are more than twice as likely to die in home fires compared to the general population.
While they make up a smaller portion of the population, seniors account for a disproportionate share of fire-related deaths each year.
Working smoke alarms can reduce the risk of dying in a home fire by about 50%, yet many fatal fires occur in homes without them.
Cooking is the leading cause of home fires, with unattended cooking being a major factor.
Heating equipment is the second leading cause of home fire deaths, especially during colder months.
Nearly half of home fire deaths occur at night (11 PM – 7 AM) when people are sleeping and less likely to notice danger.
Seniors may face challenges such as reduced mobility, hearing, or vision, which can slow response time in an emergency.
Having and practicing a home escape plan can cut escape time significantly and improve survival chances.
Fire safety education empowers our seniors to stay safe, confident, and independent in their homes. We’re proud to be part of a community that looks out for one another. ❀️ Massachusetts Department of Fire Services

During a brief respite from calls and training, Group 3 capitalized on the favorable weather to undertake springtime cleaning and maintenance tasks around the Public Safety Complex. The firefighters' unwavering pride and dedication to our community are consistently demonstrated through their emergency response efforts, comprehensive training regimen, and meticulous care of taxpayer-funded equipment and facilities.
