There's still time to deposit your letter to Santa in his mailbox until Dec 10th! Also remember, the elves made sure to ask the child's full name and complete address are clearly written on their letter- no stamp required.

Mailbox locations to send letters include the Pearland Recreation Center, Deloris Fenwick Nature Center, Westside Library, Westside Event Center and the Tom Reid Library!

Ho Ho Ho, it’s that time of year again! Santa is ready and waiting to get your child’s Christmas wish list and/or letter from today until December 10th.

For clarity as well as streamlining all the wish fulfillment this season, the elves at the North Pole did request we let y'all know to make sure the child’s name and address with the zip code are clearly written on their letter, with no stamp being necessary.

If you and your family would like to drop off letters to Santa this year, his mailboxes are spread all across the City. You can find them located at the Pearland Recreation Center and Natatorium, the Deloris Fenwick Nature Center, Pearland Westside Library, Pearland Westside Event Center, and the Tom Reid Library!

Hey friends! We hope everyone's having a safe and exciting fall season. With temperatures starting to drop and the holidays right around the corner, we've got some exciting news to share. This year the Pearland Parks & Recreation Department will be transitioning Hometown Christmas to a new online experience!

The Hometown Christmas Tree Lighting will be held online via live-stream on Friday, December 4th. The virtual ceremony will introduce key stakeholders, stunning holiday displays, and include a visit from Santa Claus as he and our new Mayor come together to light the City's Christmas tree! The presentation will then conclude with an 18-minute long fireworks display!

With the necessary precautions an in-person Hometown Christmas Parade would require, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the event without virtual substitution. We appreciate your understanding of our decision to move forward without the parade in consideration of safety for all spectators, participants, staff and volunteers.

As the New Year approaches, the Pearland Parks & Recreation Department remains optimistic about returning to normal activities in the future, while maintaining public health as our top priority. Thank you for all your continued support, and we look forward to seeing you virtually on December 4th. For full details please visit http://ow.ly/IjAc50Cn3ey

Who knew the turtle was used as a calendar??

Check out how Native Americans used the turtle shell and its importance to Native cultures. #NativeAmericanHistoryMonth

This week for #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth we are going to talk about the cultural significance of one of our favorite animals, the turtle! 🐢

The turtle is a sacred creature to Native American tribes. To the Lakóta, it represents Uncí Maká, or Mother Earth, who teaches us to walk our paths in peace. For the Navajo-Diné, the turtles shell, which holds healing properties, is used to dispense medications.

To most tribes, the turtle represents healing, wisdom, spirituality, health, safety, longevity, protection, and fertility. Most tribes also used the pattern of scales on the shell as a lunar calendar.

Like the indigenous people of North America, we highly value turtles. We should all remember their values and do our best to protect them.

During #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth help us celebrate the history of our region and the indigenous people that first called the Texas Gulf Coast home: The Karankawas.

We want to start close to home with our first #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth post.

The Karankawa Indians were a group of now-extinct tribes who lived along the Texas Gulf Coast. These nomadic tribes, found between Galveston Bay and Corpus Christi Bay, have been traced back at least 2,000 years. They were especially skilled around the water, swimming and fishing in the bays and using dugout canoes to travel along the coast.

Here are the steps for registering to use facilities. I am posting this because it is a confusing set up and this may help someone. 1. You have to have an account with a password. Google Pearland Rec Log In. Don't just google Pearland Recreation Center. 2. Go to "Online Services". Then "My Account". Set up an account. 3. On the top of your account page click "activities". Then "RCN Reopening". 4. This will take you to "Activity Search". Choose an activity by clicking on "enroll now". 5. This will take you to a calendar for that activity. The new calendars come out on Thursdays at noon. 6. This calendar is just to look at...seriously folks. So click on "enroll now". 7. This takes you to actual sign up sheet. Complete "participant" and "Days and Sessions you are Enrolling". Then "add to cart". 8. Click "Finish". Hope this helps someone.
The registration for using natatorium does not work! I logged in and couldn't get beyond my account.
Howdy! Will there be a Monster Dash this year? (I did take your survey.)
So is the facility open? I called and did not get a actual human only a recording. Can't image why the facility would be closed for reservations.
Any idea when the rims will be put back up at the basketball courts?
Did you close down again? There are no activities showing.
Just curious, will there be 4th of July fireworks at Independence Park this year?
When is the gym and pool opening?
Any news as to when you might reopen?
