VIDEO: ALEA Aviation Crew Rescues Injured Hiker in Oak Mountain State Park

After responding to rescues at Peavine Falls in Shelby County and Little River Canyon in Cherokee County on Friday, April 3, ALEA Aviation Crews received a third request for a rescue in Oak Mountain State Park where a female hiker had fallen and injured her ankle. Crews responded and rescued the female victim from a remote location in the woods. The female victim was delivered within minutes to an ambulance on the ground whereas a ground rescue would have taken much longer and exposed the crews to severe fatigue and possible injury.

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

STOP THE SPREAD: The CDC recommends wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (e.g., grocery stores and pharmacies), especially in areas of significant community-based transmission. They have also advised the use of simple cloth face coverings to slow the spread of the virus and help people who may have the virus and do not know it from transmitting it to others.

The CDC suggests cloth face coverings should—Fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face. Be secured with ties or ear loops. Include multiple layers of fabric. Allow for breathing without restriction. Be able to be laundered and machine dried without damage or change to shape.
For more information from the CDC about cloth face coverings, sewn / non-sewn instructions, and shareable PDF versions in English and Spanish, please visit this link.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a virus (more specifically, a coronavirus) identified as the cause of an outbreak of respiratory illness first detected in Wuhan, China.

Person injured from fall at Peavine Falls, rescued by helicopter

Fantastic job by our A-Shift team and our friends from ALEA Air Operations.

Reid says normally these rescues can take 90 minutes just to set up a way to get people out of the Falls and then firefighters have a far hike to get the person to safety. So on days when it’s clear, they can use the state trooper helicopter to help.
